Hello,
The KDE people, when they build newer KDE for older versions of openSUSE, use their Factory project. If the older openSUSE version doesn't provide a requirement (eg, a newer version of a package from the base distribution), they link it to their KDE Factory repo, and disable that particular package for the Factory build.
Have a look at KDE:KDE4:Factory:Desktop and for instance the libgpod3 package to see what I mean. I'd like to do the same when we do backport GNOME 2.26 for openSUSE 11.1. Would this approach be OK with everyone?
