It'll be a shame if I have to step aside from our defined standard. But as long as we're running GWMSG I will need to stick to it. And as such I will most likely not be able to provide input if empathy works or not.
What is the current status of any upstream work to enhance certificate handling capabilities? I remember there were some bugs entered but I have not followed empathy development since I tried it around a year ago and had to drop it because of the lack of GWIM support.
I had a look at this. The issue is that libpurple wants to show a dialog to accept/reject the certificate. This dialog can not be shown when empathy (telepathy-haze) hooks in the to the library. As a quick work around, I've suggested to add a new preference entry (verify-certificates) to libpurple and when set to FALSE/0, it will auto accept the certificate if the certificate "failure" is considered non fatal. A version of libpurple with patch included is available in home:MBoman:branches:GNOME:Apps if you want to test it.
