zypper in gnome-shell-classic (or gnome-shell-extensions-common, I can't remember which provides it).
I had to change from gnome to gnome-classic in /etc/sysconfig/windowmanager. Unfortunately this variant eats even more space: The top menu bar, the huge window title bars and now also the task bar at the bottom. But that taskbar makes moving FF tabs around easier.
Then you should have the alternate-tab extension available. In you case (coming from 11.4 from what I understand), you might want to try the gnome-shell-classic (select from gdm login window) instead. Note that you will probably need to issue a systemctl restart display -manager.service from a VT (or just reboot) before that option is available from gdm.
