After a massive update today, gnome-shell thinks it's not running and blocks my desktop with a crash message that only gives me the option of logging out. I can get to the overview using the keyboard and launch things using the mouse, but back on the desktop nothing can be reached past the error message. According to /var/log/messages, dbus may not be running.
I would boot my other installed Linux on this machine, but I'm at the Brno docs hackfest and my working directory is in openSUSE. I know I should have been happy with yesterday's GNOME 3.3, but we're trying to make sure we document the latest versions.
I consulted one of the GTK+ guys at the hackfest and he showed me that Alt+F4 will dispatch the offending error message by which time the system realizes Shell is running and doesn't time out.
