A month a new user, ask what is need to "control" openSUSE/Linux, and the best manuals are sold by big corporatives, we need a "open" Manual, to our "open" openSUSE Linux! #7: Thomas Schraitle (thomas-schraitle) (2010-12-10 10:34:52) (reply to #5) The manuals are already open ! :-) We moved our openSUSE manuals to the BerliOS SVN some time ago. Find the source code of our manuals here: https://developer.berlios.de/projects/opensuse-doc/ (https://developer.berlios.de/projects/opensuse-doc/) Hope you like it! #6: Alex Bars (alexdbars) (2010-12-08 01:19:59) openSUSE is amazing, I will translate to portuguese, really thanks!! #9: Thomas Schraitle (thomas-schraitle) (2010-12-20 09:09:13) (reply to #6) This would be nice! :-) We have already Russian, Hungarian, and Japanese. You can get in contact with us at the opensuse-doc@opensuse.org mailinglist for more details. :) #8: Scott Couston (zczc2311) (2010-12-17 22:58:47) Great idea to go right through the user manual and offer a quick start guide. One of my issues about the user manual is that the download link sits at the bottom of the download page and is off screen. My suggestion is that we put a Down-load Link Picture next to the version selection for download, so people can see it - Many for the first time! I would also suggest we put a hit counter behind the User Manual. There is plenty of room on our standard software download page - please stop hiding it screen at the bottom of the download page http://software.opensuse.org/113/en #10: Thomas Schraitle (thomas-schraitle) (2010-12-20 09:15:53) (reply to #8)
One of my issues about the user manual is that the download link sits at the bottom of the download page and is off screen. Well, but this is not an issue with the manuals itself. It's just the presentation of how they appear. I think, this is out of scope for _this_ FATE request. Therefor, I've created a separate bug report, see https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=660475 Feel free to improve it. :-)
#12: Luiz Fernando Ranghetti (elchevive) (2011-01-18 17:00:28) AppArmor was updated to 2.5.1 (instead of 2.3.1 in 11.3) + #13: Martin Seidler (pistazienfresser) (2011-03-09 15:22:44) + I think the URLs are wrong now: The document under Start-Up + (Publication Date 09 Mar 2011) + http://doc.opensuse.org/products/opensuse/openSUSE_113/opensuse-startup is + probably just the actual (Startup for 11.4). Under "Start-Up" with + http://doc.opensuse.org/products/opensuse/openSUSE_114/opensuse-startup seems + to be now what in 11.3 was devided in in GNOME User Guide http://doc.opensuse.org/products/opensuse/openSUSE_113/opensuse-gnomeuser/ + and KDE User Guide http://doc.opensuse.org/products/opensuse/openSUSE_113/opensuse-kdeuser/ + . Feature changed by: Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) Feature #310944, revision 17 Title: openSUSE 11.4 Manuals - openSUSE-11.4: Evaluation by engineering manager + openSUSE-11.4: Rejected by Karl Cheng (qantas94heavy) + reject reason: openSUSE 11.4 is now EOL. Priority Requester: Mandatory Requested by: Andreas Jaeger (a_jaeger) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: We need for openSUSE 11.4 a review and update of the startup guidee and of other manuals. Let us add in the comments what we need to change in the documentation Discussion: #1: Andreas Jaeger (a_jaeger) (2010-12-06 13:19:08) The startup manual mentions KNetworkManager, we use now a new Plasma Network applet. #11: Martin Seidler (pistazienfresser) (2010-12-31 21:09:16) (reply to #1) I think there is a bit of a confusion about how this applet and the corresponding software (package) is or should be called. Compare e. g.: 1) http://software.opensuse.org/search?q=networkmanager-kde4&baseproject=openSU... 3AFactory (http://software.opensuse.org/search?q=networkmanager-kde4&baseproject=openSU... 3AFactory) " NetworkManager-kde4 " in KDE:Distro:Factory/openSUSE_Factory " KNetworkManager is a KDE 4 applet for controlling network connections on systems that use the NetworkManager service." 2) http://userbase.kde.org/NetworkManagement (http://userbase.kde.org/NetworkManagement) " User Clients KNetworkManager applet for KDE 4, Network Management Plasmoid under KDE 4, KNetworkManager under KDE 3, nm-applet under GNOME, and cnetworkmanager is your last life.
