[openFATE 305362] iFolder not available in openSUSE factory
Feature changed by: Joe Harmon (jaharmon) Feature #305362, revision 4 Title: iFolder not available in openSUSE factory Requested by: Kalidas Balakrishnan (kalidasbala) Description: iFolder was available as part of openSUSE 10.2. As a Novell sponsored project, I would expect it to be made available as part of the main openSUSE 11.0 distribution. However, it is not currently part of the alpha release. Relations: - iFolder not available in openSUSE factory (novell/bugzilla/id: 350223) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=350223 + - feature/duplicate: 305712 Discussion: #1: Jan-Simon Möller (dl9pf) (2008-01-13 10:40:25) Hi Benjamin! You are right! And i second you. For the last 1/2 year I maintain some experimental packages in the buildservice. Look at http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/home:/dl9pf/ for some builds i made. The factory build is broken since 2007/12/19 and i was not able to fix it. Unfortunately, there is not much progress in the projects svn and the devs@novell are (atm?) not really resposive to the "community". Although its open-source, its now rather developed like a closed-source project - which is just sad. #2: Benjamin McCann (chengas123) (2008-01-13 13:40:10) Yes, unfortunately it seems you are right. I do not think Novell is too committed to this project. It appears there's only been one commit since September (http://forge.novell.com/pipermail/ifolder-svn/). The wiki at iFolder.com is not editable, so there's little room for community participation. Thank you for your builds. I did install it awhile back, but unfortunately iFolder is just too buggy for me to use presently. I've submitted bug reports on those as well, but it doesn't look like anyone at Novell has taken much of a look at them. I don't suppose you know more about whether this will be in 11.0? There's a lot of potential for iFolder, but I've basically given up on it. #3: Jan-Simon Möller (dl9pf) (2008-01-15 03:23:40) I know the wiki is readonly. A new server was promised 3/4 year ago. Problem is the missing spam-protection of the wiki. I did fix all the daily spam for several month - alone. After that we made the wiki readonly until the new server would be ready. No new setup up to now :- ( . Most interesting bugreports are not visible to the public. Which is just confusing for a OSS-project! This underlines the "closed development". I don't know - may be. #4: Jan-Simon Möller (dl9pf) (2008-01-15 03:44:56) See Bug 232984 ... #5: Claes Backstrom (etrash) (2008-01-15 08:49:56) If we try to add iFolder Server to openSUSE 11.0 perhaps we can get the development and wiki to work more like an opensource project. There is plans to add iFolder both to fedora and ubuntu. We should as an Novell sponsored project make this before them. #6: Benjamin McCann (chengas123) (2008-02-23 15:39:44) Any update on this? There are still another few weeks to get it into an Alpha release. Or should I assume Novell has left iFolder for dead? #7: Ted Bullock (meiqur) (2008-04-09 11:18:35) This is really an enhancement request, not a defect #8: Ted Bullock (meiqur) (2008-04-09 11:22:20) * ** Bug 232984 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** #9: Dan Elder (danman21) (2008-05-28 19:05:15) I'd be happy to help test any experimental packages as well for 11. Considering iFolder2 is no longer supported and iFolder3 usually doesn't work though I'm not sure how much effort Novell is putting into it. #10: Claes Backstrom (etrash) (2008-07-03 13:55:43) This did not happen for openSUSE 11.0 but now there is 6 months to the release of openSUSE 11.1. That should be enough time to get ifolder into it. Could someone from the ifolder team please comment if this is not possible. #11: Jan-Simon Möller (dl9pf) (2008-09-01 02:49:20) from rpm HEADER: Name : ifolder Relocations: (not relocatable) Version : 3.6.0.8213.1 Vendor: (none) Release : 1 Build Date: Fri Aug 1 07:49:42 2008 Install Date: (not installed) Build Host: blrwgpcm3 Group : System/GUI/Other Source RPM: ifolder-3.6.0.8213.1-1.src.rpm Size : 29083369 License: GPL; LGPL Signature : (none) Packager : http://support.novell.com URL : http://forge.novell.com/modules/xfmod/project/?ifolder Summary : File Sharing and Collaboration Tool Description : The iFolder Project is a project focused on file sharing and collaboration, released under the GPL and supporting the iFolder 3 protocol from Novell. Distribution: Novell Open Enterprise Server 2.0.0 Linux (i586) So please tell me: As stated in the RPM, the software is GPL/LGPL - where can the source be accessed??? And i mean an up-to-date revision. Same applies to simias. N.B.: in both packages the GPL is included. And again: let's _join forces_ and push this great app forward! #12: Jan-Simon Möller (dl9pf) (2008-09-08 15:39:55) Just a sidenote: if iFolder works on 11.1, it will work well in SLE11 as it (as we all know) shares most of the codebase. So if there would be an OSS build for 11.1 much trouble can be found/fixed for SLE 11. Just my 0,02 $. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/305362
