Do the ttys somehow hurt? I don't see an advantage in dropping the ttys - the only thing I could think of is the memory footprint of the login prompts - but I'd say this is irrelevant in comparison to KDE or Gnome ;-) And as Bruno already said, we need at least one tty in case of emergency.
