[New: openFATE 316833] YaST Sound module needs additional tests, for sound input as well as output.
Feature added by: J Leslie Turriff (MisterSlippery) Feature #316833, revision 1 Title: YaST Sound module needs additional tests, for sound input as well as output. openFATE: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Desirable Requested by: J Leslie Turriff (misterslippery) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: With the YaST Sound module I can verify that my audio output gets all the way to my speakers (internal or external): but there is no corresponding test to verify that my microphone input (internal or external) is working. Also, if possible, it would be useful to know in what layer of audio software the sound propagation fails (at the hardware? Alsa? Jack? PulseAudio? Phonon?). Use Case: Start the YaST Sound module; Select the device to be tested; Select the software layer to be diagnosed; Input sounds via a microphone or other audio source; View the results in some sort of graphic display, e.g. a VU meter or histogram. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: There seem to be few (if any) useful tools for verifying the integration of the various audio software components. Each of the components may have some diagnostic support, but some sort of overall tool would be so much more useful. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/316833
