[New: openFATE 312216] deprecate /var/lock
Feature added by: Ludwig Nussel (lnussel) Feature #312216, revision 1 Title: deprecate /var/lock openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Ludwig Nussel (lnussel) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: /var/lock should be deprecated - it never was really used properly on SUSE Linux - using lockdev didn't really help either as only few programs actually use it and it's not bug free (should be setuid instead of setgid lock) The suggestion would be to patch programs to use flock() on the device fd instead which would solve all problem wrt permissions ans stale lock files. https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=581884 http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/locking http://0pointer.de/blog/projects/locking2 -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/312216
