[New: openFATE 318301] Full support for AppStream metadata creation
Feature added by: Dominique Leuenberger (dimstar) Feature #318301, revision 1 Title: Full support for AppStream metadata creation Buildservice: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Dominique Leuenberger (dimstar) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: openSUSE 13.2 ships with gnome-software which relies on appstream metadata. The current set of appstream generated by OBS is clumsy, complicated, incomplete and in some cases even corrupt (due to corrupt extraction out of the build system already). As appstream is a fast moving target at the moment, it is not the best approach to have each package extract its metadata (a fix in the appstream data generator would require a full rebuild of a distro). It would be much more beneficial if appstream metadata generation could be run over the full repository as a publisher step (appstream-builder would be a great initiative for this, as it allows to share the codebase with other dists, using the same tool). Once we get reliable appstream metadata into the repodata, we can enable the libzypp hook to actually install the new gained power (libzypp is ready for it and the hooks are written) Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: Application Centric management should be the norm nowadays - the package centric approach is not wrong, but is on a too technical level for a regular user. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/318301
