Feature added by: John Shand (jshand2008) Feature #309260, revision 1 Title: Choose between Office Suites openSUSE-11.3: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Important Requested by: John Shand (jshand2008) Description: just with having the option to choose the web browser, it would also be a good idea to let the user choose which office suite they would like e.g. OpenOffice or KOffice. it would be desirable for this feature to be implemented -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/309260

At present the installer + focuses on minimising choices so that a new user with little knowledge + of OpenOffice and Koffice and Abiword and so on can just keep clicking + the Next buttons through most of the process and requires minimum input + from him. On the other hand, an experienced user or indeed anyone who + even knows what Koffice and Abiword (similarly Chromium, Opera, + Konqueror) are can select all these software from the DVD installer as + well (by selecting a detailed view of software selection). I think + therefore that the openSUSE installer is very good at the moment + suitable both for newbies and experienced people, but having all these + options would ruin the ease of installation for the new user. + If this is motivated by Microsoft's browser selection screen, it should + be clear that the situation is quite different here. Here it *is* + possible to choose your default browser to be Opera (if non-oss is + enabled), epiphany or konqueror and similarly Koffice, Abiword+gnumeric + or Openoffice as your office applications. Only, these are not the + options that a new user might be looking for when he is installing a + brand new OS for the first time. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/309260
