[New: openFATE 317856] UEFI bootloader support in YaST-bootloader
Feature added by: Stanislav Baiduzhyi (baiduzhyi) Feature #317856, revision 1 Title: UEFI bootloader support in YaST-bootloader openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Desirable Requested by: Stanislav Baiduzhyi (baiduzhyi) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: After installing with Grub2 on top of UEFI, it was a matter of 2 files and single command to boot kernel directly from UEFI, without grub2. Saves about 4-5 seconds during the initial start of laptop. cp /boot/vmlinuz-3.15.8-2.g258e3b0-desktop /boot/efi/EFI/opensuse/vmlinuz-3.15.8.efi cp /boot/initrd-3.15.8-2.g258e3b0-desktop /boot/efi/EFI/opensuse/initrd-3.15.8 ## here you have to read through grub2 config files to find some options for the next line efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -L "openSUSE 13.1, kernel 3.15.8" -l '\EFI\opensuse\vmlinuz-3.15.8.efi' -u 'root=UUID=084ad222-2062-48b8-9b44-2fed2b8897de resume=/dev/disk/by-id/ata-ST500LM021-1KJ152_W6209FYT-part3 splash=silent quiet showopts initrd=EFI/opensuse/initrd-3.15.8' So, OpenSUSE support for UEFI is awesome, if you're a geek, but still would like not to repeat the procedure after every kernel update, would like YaST to take care of it. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: Because it is extremely convenient for people, who have only openSUSE on their laptop/desktop, so CSM, grub and all steps in between is just waste of startup time. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/317856

That way, on a + kernel update, you need only recopy the files. You won't need to rerun + "efibootmgr". -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/317856
