Feature added by: Visitha Baddegama (visithaB) Feature #315044, revision 1 Title: Phonegap Application for openSUSE News/ Planet openFATE: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Visitha Baddegama (visithab) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: Currently openSUSE community can aware of what is happening at the organization by reffering news.oo and planet.oo. Proposed mobile application allows users to access both of above news sources together with lot of useful features. Because of I am implementing this as a phonegap application, there is a huge advantage that the app doesn't depend on the mobile platform. That means this app can be used in lot of today most popular mobile platforms like Android, iOS, Windows Mobile, BlackBerry etc. Flow of the app The main screen of the app will have two views for both news.oo and planet.oo. Using the Tab option of header, user can switch between them. At first, resulted news will be displayed as a thumbnail list which will contain an image of author or related to the news, news title and a brief description of news at each list item. The Refresh button will be at the header too. And when user click on each list item, he will be directed to full details page of selected news. In that page, there will be footer with few options like "Add as Favourite", "Share with Facebook/Twitter/ Google+", "Send Email" etc. At the footer of main screen, there will be options like "News", "Search", "Favorites" Features of the App * Use JQuery Mobile to increase the appearance of all GUIs * Implement app as suits with lot of popular Android devices Some times mobile applications don't compatible with lot of devices since different resolution sizes. This app will be compatible with device like smart phones and Tablets. * Give capability to filter news "Search" option of main screen footer will allow user to filter news by l atest news , Specific author , specific date etc * Add an event calendar to the app Event calendar of the app will be sync with openSUSE calendar and will display all upcoming events on the top of the calendar. * Give email sending capability via mobile application User can send emails to specific authors who are in the openSUSE community and out side of it too. HTML email template will be used. * Add news as favorites By using main screen footer option "Favorites", user can view again his favorite news which he starred before. * Give Language changing capability like in planet.oo According to use desire, he can change the language of app. It will contain all languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Russian etc) planet.oo supports. Here both content of the news and constant lables of app will be changed according to the language * Add a pluging to keep user preference data Using this plugin, app can manage user preference data like Language, theme, font size, enable notifications * Integration of SQLite DB to the app A SQLite database will be integrated to the app to keep data just only use at client side. All data related to Favorite News, email configuration data etc. will be stored in it. I have described all details about how I am going to implement above features, my plan and related technology and material for each functionality in my GSOC proposal. Test Case: As the first version of my Phonegap app, I successfully gave language changing capability to the app. https://www.dropbox.com/s/y35svmfhl6i6o0z/SimpleRssFeedReader.apk Using this demo, you can change the language of app to English, Hungarian, Japanese and French. Now I am adding more languages to the app. First it will display a news list with brief descriptions. And after you click on an item will display full details and images of selected news. For this application I have used JQuery mobile and custome CSS file. Therefore we can use our own colors and styles. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: Using this mobile app, users can view all articles posted in major openSUSE news sources news.oo and planet.oo very easily and quickly. And because of this is a phonegap application, app doesn't depend on the mobile platform. This allow users to use large variety of mobile devices. And all developers at the community, new comers who have interest to contribute openSUSE, and people who are using openSUSE products will be benefited with this app. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/315044
