Feature changed by: Stephan Kulow (coolo) Feature #305768, revision 7 Title: Use open source firmware for b43 - openSUSE-11.2: Evaluation + openSUSE-11.2: Rejected by Stephan Kulow (coolo) + reject date: 2009-03-04 11:57:26 + reject reason: I see desirable features as waste of (my) time. Either + it's easy to package, then I don't see a reason why it isn't done yet + or it's not. And if it's hard to package, a desirable feature won't + make it fly. Priority Requester: Desirable Requested by: Helmut Schaa (hschaa) Description: Currently openSUSE does not ship the firmware for broadcom devices due to legal issues. Only a script /usr/sbin/install_bcm43xx_firmware is provided which is not easy to find for new users. However an open source firmware for these devices are available now at [1] and would allow to be shipped with openSUSE. Of course this firmware needs some testing but it would be quite nice to not depend anymore on the proprietary firmware.
