Feature changed by: Klaas Freitag (kfreitag) Feature #306473, revision 17 Title: Support KDE initiative to build a brand together - openSUSE-11.2: Evaluation + openSUSE-11.2: Candidate Priority Requester: Mandatory openSUSE-11.3: Unconfirmed Priority Requester: Mandatory Requested by: Klaas Freitag (kfreitag) Description: Please carefully read http://aseigo.blogspot.com/2009/06/building-brand-together.html Aaron suggests to start combined efforts up- and downstream to create a strong brand for FOSS. Aaron outlines the overall goal: "The desired result is the ability to build a visually identifiable F/OSS desktop brand together , one that fits nicely with your brand as well. This way people can continue to say, "Oh hey, that's $COMPANY $NAME Linux" while giving the human population half a chance to build a relationship with F/OSS itself as a visually identifiable thing. In short: the goal is to increase our net effect in the market by working together." For that, the KDE project is starting to offer a service that helps creating a brand that is fine for both. First step is offering a frame for wallpaper design. openSUSE and the KDE project would bring openSUSE's logo and/or color scheme into KDE's default wallpaper(s). I think we should be an early adoptor here. Discussion: #1: Andreas Demmer (ademmer) (2009-06-08 16:19:33) Pinheiro did a great job in the new default "Air" Plasma theme for KDE 4.3. IMHO it looks much more attractive then openSUSE's default Aya theme. I suggest we should take the offer that they would do a openSUSE branded KDE (e.g. geeko on the start button and the like). This would not only help building the KDE brand but appeal to be designed with much more love than the default openSUSE 11.1 KDE look was. Plus, jimmac could concentrate his efforts on Gnome. #2: Thomas Thym (ungethym) (2009-06-19 18:14:09) +1I think this is a great oppotunity to save ressources. We don't have to invite the wheel twice and in my opinion the KDE team does fantastic design work. If the openSUSE brand is placed in a good way we don't loose anything, but gain a lot. #3: Will Stephenson (wstephenson) (2009-07-14 14:44:10) I have met up with Jimmac and Nuno Pinheiro from KDE's artwork team on this. We are ready to agree which elements to begin with. The initial scope is desktop session wallpapers but Nuno is willing to provide other wallpapers so that the branding fits in with other distro look and feel. #4: Markus K (kamikazow) (2009-08-09 15:51:10) What's wrong with KDE's default wallpaler but with a greenish taint to match openSUSE? -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/306473
