Feature changed by: Vincent Untz (vuntz) Feature #310005, revision 5 Title: ask for root password once per-session - openSUSE-11.3: Unconfirmed + openSUSE-11.3: Rejected by Vincent Untz (vuntz) + reject reason: Didn't happen for 11.3, obviously. Priority Requester: Important + openSUSE Distribution: Unconfirmed + Priority + Requester: Desirable Requested by: Thiago Sayao (sayao) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: It would be nice to just ask for the root password once per-session. For security it would be valid only for the session for X minutes. When into the X minutes after the password is entered the request for authentication would just have the "Cancel" and "Continue" buttons, the password field would be hidden because the password would be still valid. When the X minutes expires, the system would as for the password again. Variations of this method are accepted, but it is annoying to have to enter the password a lot of times when configuring things or installing packages. Discussion: #1: Pavol Rusnak (prusnak) (2010-06-21 08:16:34) This is what gnome-su and kdesu are for. If they are not working correctly it is a bug. #3: Some One (dextermanas) (2010-06-27 05:02:09) (reply to #1) Doesn't seem to be for kdesu in all my fresh installs of 11.2. For eg, whenever I use the One-click-installer and the password is prompted, suppose I immediately invoke it again then it asks me for the password again. This happens even though the "remember" option is checked. #2: Thiago Sayao (sayao) (2010-06-22 13:12:18) gnome-su seems to be working, but it asks the password every time. I am proposing to save the password for X minutes and only ask for the elevation confirmation within those X minutes without the need to enter the password again. The gnome keyring has a similar option for GPG signatures. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/310005
