Feature changed by: Marius Tomaschewski (mtomaschewski) Feature #305702, revision 11 Title: Finer checks for a syslog reload need in dhcp client scripts openSUSE-11.2: Evaluation Priority Requester: Desirable Projectmanager: Desirable Requested by: Karl Katzke (karlkatzke) Description: Syslog reloads every time the DHCP lease is renewed, even though the "change hostname via DHCP" option is turned off in the configuration. Finer control requested in bugzilla, bug 466198, by Karl Katzke. Would be a finer control / finer checks (hostname, ip address changes) desirable to implement? Relations: - syslog does not get right hostname when dhcp is used (novell/bugzilla/id: 116466) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=116466 - DHCP renewal causes syslog-ng reset even if host name has not changed (novell/bugzilla/id: 466198) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=466198 Discussion: #1: Klaus Slott (sl0tt) (2009-04-27 20:13:45) I second that a better check is needed. I manage a network with 25 servers, all getting "fixed" addresses from our dhcp. This way we manage all ip adresses from our central database. The current behavior was really annoying and so we have created a small patch for dhcpcd-hook. I would like to upload it somewhere but I am unsure where to proceed. #2: Marius Tomaschewski (mtomaschewski) (2009-04-28 09:24:44) (reply to #1) Please attach the patch to the bug 466198, thanks! + #5: Marius Tomaschewski (mtomaschewski) (2009-09-03 11:05:04) + Added attachment Patch checking for hostname changes to decide if + reload is needed (sysconfig-dhcp-avoid-syslog-reload.fate305702.diff) -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/305702
