Feature changed by: Maximilian Maher (maxmaher) Feature #305149, revision 11 Title: Yast Expert Partitioner: should not require mounting "/" root partition openSUSE-11.2: Done Priority Requester: Desirable Info Provider: Alexey Eremenko (fenixnbk) Requested by: Alexey Eremenko (fenixnbk) Description: Hi All ! Since openSUSE 11.1 will have brand new expert partitioner, I would like to request the ability to use SUSE's partitioner for partition hard disks for other operating systems. Currently it is not possible, because SUSE requires mounting "/" root partition. In some cases I need to install third-party OSes before I install openSUSE, so I want to use SUSE flexible partitioner to partition and format the hard disk, then install the other OSes and only in the end I want to install openSUSE. -Alexey Relations: - [Feature-request] Yast Expert Partitioner: should not require mounting "/" root partition (novell/bugzilla/id: 414324) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=414324 Test Case: - Call the Yast Paritioner without mounted /. then you should not be - forced to mount / first. + * Call the Yast Paritioner without mounted /. + * then you should not be forced to mount / first. Discussion: #1: Arvin Schnell (aschnell) (2008-08-04 08:41:18) So in a nutshell you want to use the partitioner as a separate program (started from the DVD) without the other installation features like package managment. Right? #2: Arvin Schnell (aschnell) (2008-08-05 12:11:02) Not mounting "/" during installation will certainly lead to a failure so I hesitate to remove the check. But we could add a special mode with disabled checks. #3: Robert Davies (robopensuse) (2009-01-17 12:22:56) Actually I thought I had done this with Live CD. Why isn't the YaST partitioning tool there suitable? If you are partitioning disks, then / should be in memory and swap not activated by default. #4: Federico Lucifredi (flucifredi) (2009-01-26 20:37:42) (reply to #3) Alexei, is this solution sufficient? #5: Rajko Matovic (rajko_m) (2009-04-05 11:40:42) (reply to #4) He haven't thought of openSUSE Live CD, and many independent tools for that purpose. Arvin is right. Check must exist. #6: Stanislav Visnovsky (visnov) (2009-05-28 16:31:43) (reply to #5) For LiveCD, a special mode without checks is a reasonable compromise. #7: Arvin Schnell (aschnell) (2009-07-23 17:24:15) I have changed the check so that the user can ignore the result (like it is for several other checks for the partition setup during installation). This was easy and should solve this feature request. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/305149
