Feature changed by: Drew Kwashnak (dragonbite) Feature #306619, revision 12 Title: open firmware for some broadcom wifi cards openSUSE-11.2: Evaluation Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Mariusz Fik (fisiu) Description: It could be fine to ship openSUSE 11.2 with open firmware for broadcom wifi cards. Then, some cards will work out-of-box. For this chips currently unsupported we still have "install_bcm43xx_firmware". Known supported boards until now: 4306, 4311(rev1), 4318 and 4320 http://www.ing.unibs.it/openfwwf/ (http://www.ing.unibs.it/openfwwf/) Discussion: #1: Andreas Jaeger (a_jaeger) (2009-07-10 12:13:31) Jiri, can we add this? #6: Axel Braun (docb) (2009-07-13 23:02:51) Open firmware is as well available for some prism chipsets, see prism54. org + #9: Drew Kwashnak (dragonbite) (2010-01-08 17:28:30) + Fedora 12 includes OpenFWWF and my broadcom BCM 4309 was detected out + of the box. Also, it has had a better connection than the regular + method (fwcutter) and comparable or superios to Windows all on the same + box. I have not had a dropped connection yet, while the fwcutter does + every so often. + This would greatly enhance the "out-of-the-box" experience as well as + promote the open source options over the current proprietary method. + Also agree, the existing method can be in place for those that are not + supported. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/306619
