Feature changed by: Tomáš Chvátal (scarabeus_iv) Feature #311322, revision 62 Title: Add Colours button to change your monitor's color depth or bit depth - openSUSE Distribution: New + openSUSE Distribution: Rejected by Tomáš Chvátal (scarabeus_iv) + reject reason: This is mostly for desktop environment to control. + Report it to KDE or Gnome teams. Priority Requester: Important Requested by: Roman Bysh (romanator) Partner organization: openSUSE.org Description: I'm proposing we add a "Colours" button with a dropdown list of colour settings to the Display and Monitor settings. Similar to the "Colours" button in SaX2 and Display Settings in Windows. This will allow the user to change the color depth via the graphics card. Color depth explained -- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_depth ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In SaX2 the button was named "Colours". Click on the following link to view how it looked in SaX2: http://en.opensuse.org/File:YaST-Monitor.jpg Since SaX2 was deprecated and "xorg.conf" was being phased out. All openSUSE users have been missing a very valuable feature to dynamically change the color depth. This could be integrated into KDE 4.6x - 4.7x revisions. The following shows a sample of different color depth settings. Example: * 32-bit * 24-bit * 16-bit * 8-bit This could be an interesting project for the Summer of Code 2011. Let's vote to add this feature to the Display and Monitor - Display Settings in KDE and GNOME. Business case (Partner benefit): openSUSE.org: This allows the user to change your monitor's color depth with the click of a button. -- openSUSE Feature: https://features.opensuse.org/311322
