[opensuse-factory] Status: Distribution

Hi, There are many things in need of fixing in case you look for something where you can help: LXDE still broken display manager: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/20580/modules/first_boot/steps/1 I suggest we take down LXDE from DVD. Issues with it are seldomly fixed in timely manner ;( Upgrade path broken: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/20589/modules/upgrade_select/steps/1 I remember it was tracked in bugzilla somewhere, but I lost the pointer. UTF-8 terminal still broken on live cds: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/20643/modules/yast2_lan/steps/2 mkfs.btrfs still crashing on lvm: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/20633/modules/start_install/steps/3 On top of it are 63 build failures in Factory (send factory reminders yesterday) Of those I will drop the following because they fail for >100 days: openstack-trove openstack-swift openstack-nova openstack-neutron openstack-keystone openstack-heat openstack-glance openstack-cinder openstack-ceilometer openCryptoki pdns-recursor rubygem-chef selinux-policy And possibly more depending on those. Yes, it is in fact bug in opensuse control file - in fact the bug is assigned to you by me :) https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=892331
UTF-8 terminal still broken on live cds: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/20643/modules/yast2_lan/steps/2
mkfs.btrfs still crashing on lvm: https://openqa.opensuse.org/tests/20633/modules/start_install/steps/3
On top of it are 63 build failures in Factory (send factory reminders yesterday)
Of those I will drop the following because they fail for >100 days:
openstack-trove openstack-swift openstack-nova openstack-neutron openstack-keystone openstack-heat openstack-glance openstack-cinder openstack-ceilometer openCryptoki pdns-recursor rubygem-chef selinux-policy

Builds in security, but the diff to factory is pretty big: https://build.opensuse.org/package/show/security/openCryptoki Any reason not to SR that to factory? Also, openCryptoki has a pending SR in security: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/244776 If someone wants to look at openCryptoki they may want to look at that SR first. I will SR to factory. I was hoping for John Jolly to look at the incoming SR. Ciao, Marcus -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

LXDE, while not deprecated, is basically in maintenance mode, the new version, based on Qt, rather than Gtk is in X11:lxde:lxqt and with the upcoming 0.8 stable release, will probably get pushed to factory. I'm not sure that means the Gtk LXDE needs to be dropped *right* now, but I do know that they are not co-installable, and that there are no more releases coming for the Gtk based version.

Hi. That's incorrect. LXDE is actively maintained and still gaining features like split pane in PCManFM or the new weather plugin in LXPanel. I started using LXDE some time ago and given that it was a bit neglected I decided to learn about packaging. Since then I've been continuously submitting new versions of the desktop components. It's only that with a small team you can't move forward very fast. Their current status can be checked in their wiki: http://wiki.lxde.org/en/Status_of_LXDE_components or you can browse their git site: http://git.lxde.org/gitweb/?o=age They even have implemented some of my feature requests like the ability to support custom gtkrc files (aka theming support) in LXPanel, and that was a week ago (split view was one of my feature request too). I don't care if it is killed from the DVD or not (I can understand it) because I know how to install it anyway, but I think that's not the general case. Sadly, I barely have the skills to package the new releases and apply patches. Integration of the packages in the system is out of my scope and given the lack of interest in this desktop the natural step is to remove it from the DVD. But it's a pity. I think that the current LXDE status is great, mature, and the packages for openSUSE are now up to date.
