[opensuse-factory] The frog (kermit) seems to be gone?
All, I wanted to install ckermit on openSuSE 11.2 RC1. It doesn't seen to exist any-more. Is there a specific reason to drop this package? Regards, Joop. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

The reason was that I though there were no living users anymore :). If you use it, are you willing to maintain it? I think there aren't many other users, so bugs about functionality should be rare, if any. You might occasionally get a bugreport about coding errors from David Binderman, but that's all. There are probably not many people that use it (I'm one of them). Kermit is very useful for connecting to serial consoles for Sun sparc stations, Cisco and other networking devices and other devices with an rs232 management console. I will try to maintain it. I also sent an email to Columbia university to find out what the status of version 8.0.212 is.

Kermit, minicom and friends surplanted by the much nicer gtkterm unless you intend to run in VC mode. I've been using gtkterm years before it appeared in the distro and it's always done the business with no hassles. Recently a guy on the beagleboard list reported a problem with minicom on openSUSE, I suggested he tried gtkterm which I use, it worked. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... Hi Michal, If possible you can put this package back (in the current build) with me (worldcitizen) as maintainer. Regards, Joop. On Mon, October 19, 2009 11:18 pm, Joop Boonen wrote:

I copied ckermin to Base:System and granted access to you and Boyd. You are listed as the bugowner. If the package builds ok, submit it to Factory with $ osc sr openSUSE:Factory Note that 11.2 is already branched, I don't know if Coolo allows a "new" package there, but you can ask him. I don't want to. 11.2 is branched for a reason: we're done with new packages. Greetings, Stephan -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Stephan, Can it be available in 11.3 12.0 (what ever the release after 11.2 is)? Regards, Joop.

It shouldn't be a problem. All we have to do is do a osc sr for openSUSE:Factory. We are too late for 11.2, but we could possibly make it in contrib for 11.2. I really would rather have it available in factory. I have been looking for a devel project to put it in. Have not really found one yet. I would think it could go into the same devel progroject as putty, and other terminal emulators. -- Boyd Gerber <gerberb@zenez.com> 801 849-0213 ZENEZ 1042 East Fort Union #135, Midvale Utah 84047 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I use it all the time. If no one else will step up. I will maintain it. I have to use it with a few of my clients and their POS software. It currently is the only means that their POS SW allows to work with their accounting SW. Boyd, Joop, whoever wants to maintain it, just copy openSUSE:Dropped/ckermit and submit to Factory. Or even better, find a suitable devel project to host the package, submit there and from there submit to Factory.
