[opensuse-factory] X.Org issue with latest kernel 2.6.29
Hi, After update to the latest factory I received also the latest kernel 2.6.29. However I am now currently experience issues with Xserver. If I switch to a console session (Ctrl-Alt-F1) and then back to the Xsession (Ctrl-Alt-F7), I see a black block at the top of the screen (full width) and everything seems frozen. I can move the mouse, but cannot click on anything. I have a similar effect when I resume the notebook from Sleep. I already tried the kernel 2.6.29 before (starting from RC3 in the KERNEL:HEAD repository) and I had the same errors. I already created bug #478296, but I was wondering if I am the only one who is experiencing this issue ? Just FYI, things seem to be working fine here with a GeForce card and the binary NVidia driver, so possibly really an issue connected with drivers for ATI cards. Given the were major changes in kernel-side graphics support in .29, it's easily possible that incompatibilities arise. Hi Greg, I am using a IBM Thinkpad T42. This notebook has a ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics card. For this one I am using the radeon (+radeonfb) drivers in the kernel and see the sniplet below of the Xorg.conf file regarding the graphics driver : Section "Device" BoardName "Radeon LW" BusID "1:0:0" Driver "radeon" Identifier "Device[0]" Option "AGPMode" "4" Option "RenderAccel" "on" Option "BIOSHotkeys" "on" Option "GARTSize" "32" Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true" Option "SaXDualHead" "" Option "SaXDualMode" "Clone" Option "SaXDualMonitorModel" "1024X768@60HZ" Option "SaXDualMonitorVendor" "--> VESA" Option "SaXDualOrientation" "LeftOf" Option "SaXDualResolution" "1024x768" Option "SaXDualVSync" "50-60" Option "CRT2HSync" "31-48" Option "CRT2Position" "Clone" Option "CRT2VRefresh" "50-60" Option "IgnoreEDID" "yes" Option "MergedFB" "yes" Option "MetaModes" "1024x768,1024x768;1024x768,1024x768" Option "SaXDualHSync" "31-48" Option "MonitorLayout" "AUTOCRT,AUTO" VendorName "ATI" EndSection Regards Raymond _________________________________________________________________ News, entertainment and everything you care about at Live.com. Actually, contrary to what I mailed to this list before, I've also seen something like this now (with the binary NVidia driver and another Factory update from yesterday, using Kernel:HEAD and KDE4:UNSTABLE:* from OBS though): Not on KDE startup, only once I launched systemsettings, all the screen went black, with only the mouse pointer being visible. As the sounds from Amarok was still playing, I went to a tty console, logged in and killed kwin, when switching back to the X display, things worked again. With plasma still there, I could get a KDE Konsole window up and start kwin again, now things are back to normal. Maybe the issue is with kwin, not with X.org, but maybe it's some kernel thing, X.org and kwin playing together or so.
