[opensuse-factory] alpha and beta releases updates
I'm considering installing the latest alpha over my 10.3 system because I'm having way too many issues running java apps. I never installed any alpha/beta or factory so I was wondering, once I have the alpha 2 installed, will there be a smooth upgrade path to the alpha 3 and beta or will I have to re-download the whole DVD every time? I have Alpha2 installed. To upgrade it, you need to use the factory repository, and yesterdays try to update all installed packages resulted in 2.3G download. So, looks like it'll be better to download the delta iso, and install as upgrade, when it becomes available. I haven't had any particular 64 bit issues but rather wicked window manager bugs that sun and gnome keep bouncing back.
System: openSUSE 11.0 (x86_64) Alpha3
Btw, how do you get the Alpha3? Did you install the factory? Erik. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Install fctry repo's, and disable the other ones.. But you have to fool around a bit with the package managers, to get the first fctry installed. ;) If you can't get it done, take kde 11.0 install, or if you use gnome, the gnome install cd. -- Enjoy your time around, Oddball (Now or never...) I have been using "zypper dup" successfully except on a couple of boxes where there were too many conflicts to resolve in getting to Alpha2 from Alpha1plus. Getting to Alpha3 from Alpha1plus was a breeze on those boxes, With factory repos, "zypper in libzypp zypper" then "zypper dup" was all it took with just a few minor conflicts - stuff I really didn't need. One of those boxes is an Acer laptop where booting from CD or DVD doesn't work. There is a hardware problem that causes the laptop to power down once it's running at full speed in 11.0, so I don't get very far before it dies. The latest and much improved zypper did the business. 5x 11.0 Alpha3 boxes running A1 OK. Regards Sid. -- Sid Boyce ... What problems are you having? Maybe you can fix the way you have Java set up rather than taking such a radical step (which will probably break many more other things)... -- "After the vintage season came the aftermath - and Cenbe."
