[opensuse-factory] Confirm permission to use klamav name
Whan submitting update to the klamav package I faced a resistence from the legal team: clamav is a registered trademark (3475248 and 3475245) of Sourcefire, Inc. Can you confirm that permission exists from Sourcefire, Inc to use the KDE3 frontend with the very similar name klamav? https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=746338 I think I cannot provide such permission. I think the original submitter of this package should do. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

You (or the original submitter) should simply contact Sourcefire and ask for permission. Or if there's a public trace of such permission, put the link in the bug. Marketing ? :) Didn't you meant "LEGAL team"? Marketing people don't speak legalese :) 2012/2/10 Ilya Chernykh <anixxsus@gmail.com>:

Whoever gave you that message referenced protected bug report. Following link one goes there, log in and hit a closed door which is annoying, and could be prevented with simple note "(protected)".

You are right. In general asking for permission at the time of packaging is too late, as renaming in case of modestly complex software can be much more work then to rename files. Taking that once upon a time there was no problem, and now there is, or could be, it is good time to research alternatives. According to the: http://www.clamav.net/lang/en/download/packages/packages-linux/ (section SUSE) there is ClamAV package in: http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/security and there is one, clamav-0.97.3 which is the latest available. Last activity on KlamAV project is dated 2009-02-28 (3 years ago). ClamAV is the engine, Klamav is a front-end. They have different purpose. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
