[opensuse-factory] zypper not deleting packages
Hello, I had 12.1 rc1 32 and 64 bit installed on two systems from a 12.1 Live cd a few days ago and had both systems upgraded to 12.1 rc2 with zypper dup. The point is, that the downloaded packages don't get removed after they were installed. I currently have around 1400 packages in my systems that are kept after installation. I already checked in yast->Software Repositories if "Keep Donwloaded Packages" is checked or not and it isn't. Can anyone confirm this? How do I do I make zypper delete installed packages after installation again? Thanks, Andreas -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I have them stored in a different location than "/var/cache/zypp/packages" due to limited disk space. This is something I do with all my test installations and it has been working fine and still is with my five other factory test installations. Could this approach suddenly be a problem? The above should read: "How do I do I make zypper delete _downloaded_ packages after installation again?" Sorry for the typo.

because your packages are not in the *default* location? it worked for me, 90% -> 57% space available... -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Patrick, this is on a machine dedicated to testing purposes solely. My approach is to have all different openSUSE flavors I am intested in testing on this machine, plus some space left to be able to test new installations (like the 12.1 rc1 I mentioned before) and a larger separate partition to - make partition backups of all installations - store files that all installations can or need to access for testing - store the downloaded packages for system upgrades This results in installations on smaller partitions as usual... And 'smaller' here means _much_ smaller. Hence disk space on these partitions is constrained and it has happened in the past that a partition went out of space during an upgrade when huge updates were due. This is why all my installations have their packages-download-directory on a separate partition (called backup) configured in zypp.conf like this: packagesdir = /backup/packages/<name_of_desktop_environment> The above configuration has been working well for quite some time now with all installations. Meaning, that all downloaded packages were and still are deleted after their installation. Only exception to this is the newly installed 12.1 rc1/2. So I don't think that this is a problem of using a different location than *default* to store packages. This must be something different. So what is wrong with 12.1 rc2 here? Are there other places to look for a possible configuration glitch than zypp.conf?
