[opensuse-factory] unidentified konsole instance consuming 100% of 2 cpu's
Tw 20150714 I randomly for the last several days get an instance of konsole consuming 100% of 2 cpu's. I kill the instance and the (of course) the usage goes away. But I cannot find a missing instance of console. I jumped too soon the last time and didn't try to find it before killing it, will next time. Anyone have similar experience or identified the problem? tks -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I have seen something like that a few times lately, but I can't tell what's causing it, as the only way out is to hit the power switch. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

For example, When new font files are installed, the font cache goes out of date. When Freetype notices that, it tries to regenerate them. However, there is no coordination between any of the processes that are using libfreetype (and there are quite a few active), and so many of them jump to high CPU use and block until each has regenerated it. Which can take a long time given sufficiently many processes. 1. in a xterm, run `top` 2. in a root xterm, `touch /usr/share/fonts/truetype` 3. Super-R to bring up the (in my case, XFCE) appfinder program 4. Observe in top how xfrun4 and xfsettingsd use CPU simultaneously. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
