[opensuse-factory] Please review Leap 42.1 release notes
Hi, It's only one week left until Leap is done. So it's time to update the release notes. Therefore please help filling up the release notes for 42.1 with useful information. The current document can be found at https://doc.opensuse.org/release-notes/x86_64/openSUSE/Leap/42.1/ If you find noteworty issues with Leap or have packages that need special attention when updating from previous releases, please add that to the release notes. There are two ways to do it: a) file a bug report at https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=openSUSE%20Distribution&component=Release%20Notes b) directly send a pull request to https://github.com/openSUSE/release-notes-openSUSE cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I assume "updating from previous releases" means in practice "updating from openSUSE 13.2"? Regarding "releases" (plural): Is "updating from openSUSE 13.1" officially supported? Regarding "updating from openSUSE 13.2": I think all packages that come from SLE12 and have a lower version that the one in 13.2 potentionally need special attention because in those cases a version downgrade happens when updating to Leap. Do we have a listing of those packages where updating from 13.2 to Leap results a package version downgrade? Well, I'm not sure talking about "officially supported" makes sense in the context of openSUSE :-) From a technical PoV upgrading from 13.2 has a higher chance to succeed than from older releases.

A lower version doesn't mean that it's causing problems on upgrade though.
Do we have a listing of those packages where updating from 13.2 to Leap results a package version downgrade?
I don't think so. Btw, https://en.opensuse.org/Upgrade is looking for a volunteer to adjust for Leap. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Right. But I understand it means that Bugzillas on upgrade from 13.1 issues will not be closed directly. Another point here is differentiating between a zypper dup and a boot dvd and choose upgrade methods (online/offline). The former is very possible that fails, the other typically works (I'm not thinking specifically of Leap, but of two versions jumps).

No, but people should know about their existence, or they may be disappointed if they find out after upgrading. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. Why does it say "grep was updated"? (And it also went from 2.20 to 2.16) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

If it's wrong then it's worth a bug report I'd say. cu Ludwig -- (o_ Ludwig Nussel //\ V_/_ http://www.suse.com/ SUSE Linux GmbH, GF: Felix Imendörffer, Jane Smithard, Graham Norton, HRB 21284 (AG Nürnberg) -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
