[opensuse-factory] Widescreen resolution problem in instal? (1440x900)
Hi, I have noticed that I can not get more than 1024x768 while installing on my HP 6510b with 1440x900. The correct resolution is set after the installprocedure is set, so it's not a major problem. Is this something solveable? I have tried to google for a solution but came up empty. Another issue is that I can not do CTR-ALT-BACKSPACE to reset X. Is there a change on this? you must type it twice (it is added to prevent mistype). Can be disabled in xorg.conf (not sure). Pepa

It's the first entry of the Release Notes. As expected nobody reads them. Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.) Seems you use a different google ;-) Searching for "kernel param vga= 1440x900", I found http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=113901 which says you should try vga=0x365 or 357. http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Lenovo_Thinkpad_T61 says vga=868 should work. I don't know which one is correct - you'll have to find out yourself ;-)

Depends on the BIOS. Check with "hwinfo --framebuffer". Possibly such a resolution is not provided by the BIOS at all. Stefan hwinfo reports that max resolution is 1024x768. But how does Yast figure out the correct resolution later on? Could not that be used in the install procedure also? It's no big deal, but it would look better for new users.

It asks the monitor.

??? During installation fbdev is used, which resolution support is limited to its BIOS. Afterwards the native driver is used, which doesn't have these limitations. Ok? You can find the correct value for your machine in: Yast2->Hardware->Hardware Information There under Framebuffer you can see all the valid values you can use...
