[opensuse-factory] 11.0 beta 3
I have never been able to get the update mechanism to work. I have seen lots of threads on this topic though. It's not that I am new to SUSE either. I don't think it make sense to go into much detail since we are about to move to RC1. So I will ask, will I see the update zypper manager work properly with RC1 ? I could easily document and send screen shots etc. but thought this late in the game I would wait for RC1. However, why should anyone have to revert to the command line to get a mechanism as important as this one to work. I saw that in the exchanges several days ago. sudo zypper ref (always works and show 4 or so repositories as ok) I tried sudo zypper dup and one time I got several hours of downloads coming my way with one error message that I told it to skip. However, the icon on the bottom right is always in error mode. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

KDE or GNOME? What do you mean by 'error mode' ? Stano --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Simple: the icon sitting in the bottom RH of the taskbar, next to the clock, show a yellow triangle with '!' and when you put the cursor it you get an eye-full of an error message stating that the repositories are illegal and cannot be accessed. However, if one goes to Yast2 Control Centre and does the Online update, and/or do the scan the repositories for any new upgrades, there is no problem- the repositories are checked with no error messages. The problem - I found out by accident last night - is that for the upgrade checker (bottom RH of taskbar) to stop coming up with the yellow triangle and to stop coming up with the error message(s) is to use the Remove/Add Repositories option in that icon and to ADD "/suse/" at the end of the URLs for the OSS and NON-OSS repositories. Perplexed from OZ. -- Vulgar language is the linguistic crutch of inarticulate persons. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

In that case it helped determine that the error was not in the upgrade process but elsewhere.

Then it did upgrade the packages :-)
However, the icon on the bottom right is always in error mode.
Which represent a different problem / bug. Hub --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Thanks for the communication and thoughts. Rather than muck with it any longer I think I'll wait until tomorrow and d/l RC1 and if I still see a problem I'll do a better job of characterizing what I am seeing. For me, this works. But the open-suse updater (lizard icon in the taskbar) is green, and hovering the mouse above it it says that there are no updates available. Is this a bug, or a shortcoming on my side? regards, Jogchum --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
