[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed: NetworkManager and other boot messages?
Since the weekend or so the bootlog complains about NetworkManager (which was deactivated in April last year): Jul 05 18:37:19 Gertrud systemd[1]: Network Manager is not active. Jul 05 18:37:19 Gertrud systemd[1]: Dependency failed for Network Manager Wait Online. Jul 05 18:37:19 Gertrud systemd[1]: NetworkManager-wait-online.service: Job NetworkManager-wait-online.service/start failed with result 'dependency'. I guess I need to enable/disable some units, so if anybody knows which ones, I'd be grateful for a tip. While I was looking through the journals, I also found that since last October last year I'm getting about 30 or so: Okt 08 22:31:07 Gertrud systemd-udevd[723]: Process '/usr/bin/systemctl reset-failed kdump' failed with exit code 1. And since the end of this year this happened Jan 28 23:00:38 Gertrud systemd[1]: SuSEfirewall2_init.service: Job SuSEfirewall2_init.service/stop deleted to break ordering cycle starting with basic.target/stop which changed one month later to Feb 24 20:48:31 Gertrud SuSEfirewall2[611]: mktemp: failed to create file via template ‘/tmp/SuSEfirewall2_iptables.XXXXXXXX’: Permission denied Feb 24 20:48:31 Gertrud systemd[1]: SuSEfirewall2_init.service: Main process exited, code=exited, status=1/FAILURE Feb 24 20:48:31 Gertrud systemd[1]: Failed to start SuSEfirewall2 phase 1. Feb 24 20:48:31 Gertrud systemd[1]: SuSEfirewall2_init.service: Unit entered failed state. Feb 24 20:48:31 Gertrud systemd[1]: SuSEfirewall2_init.service: Failed with result 'exit-code'. As above, I'd like to know if these are easily fixable by some systemd magic on the command line… Regards, Achim. -- +<[Q+ Matrix-12 WAVE#46+305 Neuron microQkb Andromeda XTk Blofeld]>+ SD adaptations for Waldorf Q V3.00R3 and Q+ V3.54R2: http://Synth.Stromeko.net/Downloads.html#WaldorfSDada -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

If you do not use NetworkManager, you should disable NetworkManager-wait-online.service. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Well, that presumably was the state before the update. So am I supposed to use wicked or NetworkManager with the latest KDE? I don't care much either way because I only use wired network anyway, so I think NetworkManager would maybe be preferred? With wired network there is little reason to use network manager. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Thank you. I've manually disabled this unit for now. WUT ? so /tmp is not writable or mounted at the time the SuSEfirewall2_init.service starts ? what's up with that ? do you use a custom /tmp mount point ? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I haven't done anthing since the installation w.r.t. mount points. So whatever errors you see were happening after something changed with an update. This particular error is no longer present however, it was some transitory occurence.
