[opensuse-factory] alpha2 - YasT2 icons
They look at little tired and dull, IMO. /Per Jessen, Zürich --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Didn't you rather mean Alpha5 than Alpha2?
Absolutely - well spotted. /Per Jessen, Zürich --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

+1 Matter of taste etc... but to me the default tango icon set is just plain horrible, a step backwards in terms of "style". Also, "puke green" is a weird choice for a base colour. But well, I guess gnomification keeps going. Maybe we should collect some money and ask Everaldo to design a beautiful tango-compliant icon set. cheers - -- -o) Pascal Bleser http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/ /\\ <pascal.bleser@skynet.be> <guru@unixtech.be> _\_v The more things change, the more they stay insane. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFFK5qsr3NMWliFcXcRAh8xAJ4hV3R4dNFSPCFHadEYP7P2VDJY4wCfZM8U 6cgplpUxo1dzdu84fc3bYME= =Xqyc -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Thank you for putting it so concisely. That is exactly what I meant. /Per Jessen, Zürich --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

They are not too bad. There is just something wrong with the greens. One green is too muddy (Hardware), and the other one is too neon (Software). And the Hardware icon lacks a little bit of gray (see Disk Controller). And there are some icons that are completely gray or gray with b/w -- those need decent color spots. -- Karl Eichwalder R&D / Documentation SUSE Linux Products GmbH GPG: 1024D/06EB882E B2A3 AF2F CFC8 40B1 67EA 475A 5903 A21B 06EB 882E --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Well that "puke-ish" (sorry but.. heh) green colour used everywhere in the tango theme is a mystery to me. All in all, it looks very gnome-ish, very "industrial" (which I never liked either).
And there are some icons that are completely gray or gray with b/w -- those need decent color spots.
Yes. And I find them to be.. how to say... very "pixelized", as if they used only 16 colours or something, definitely a lot less smooth than what you can see in Crystal, nuoveXT, Linspire Clear, Graphite-Rade8, Snowish, ... Hence why I meant "a step backwards". cheers - -- -o) Pascal Bleser http://linux01.gwdg.de/~pbleser/ /\\ <pascal.bleser@skynet.be> <guru@unixtech.be> _\_v The more things change, the more they stay insane. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.2 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFFLhX+r3NMWliFcXcRAlYgAKCZetWxyzdqHX/oujMZmCUR0QWxGgCgjFJ1 WIHGS9ap1+X7MTv9VVYNyOA= =JOtK -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

That would be the Gnome look, which is.. brown. BTW, is this a bug or feature? Shouldn't YaST have KDE icons in KDE? Or is this a "judicious resource utilization feature" (aka Gnome is king and owns everything, KDE is "supported" with crumbs from the king's table). Hi, Silviu Marin-Caea schrieb:

It's a feature - feature number 301304.

Maybe, maybe not... Define "KDE icons". Different YaST2 themes can be installed. People can create a package with a different icon set - The yast2-theme-openSUSE package does not even own the /usr/share/YaST2/theme/current symlink. => No conflicts with multiple theme packages are to be expected. Maybe you can even just install the old yast2-theme-SuSELinux package and adjust the /usr/share/YaST2/theme/current symlink.

I fail to see in which way this should be related to KDE <-> GNOME battles.

I didn't like the new icons and started to like them after 5 Minutes. I think that this is more a problem of being used to the previous CrystalSVG-like theme for so many years. The new yast2-theme-openSUSE looks like it might fit quite well the Oxygen Theme: http://www.oxygen-icons.org/ => Not a KDE <-> GNOME issue in my eyes. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

It is whatever is default on a 10.2 Alpha5 KDE install.
BTW, is this a bug or feature?
As far as I'm concerned, it's just my opinion. /Per Jessen, Zürich --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org
