[opensuse-factory] snapshoot 20181224 plain hardware installation fails network
Hi, i am only user and will not file a bug report because i do not completely know how to do correct: a plain installation of this snapshoot on real hardware will end in an not usable installation, regarding network: -> network installation will be done "fixed address" no dhcp after reboot and login in kde the network will show that it will search for address (of course not provided because fixed addresses) so no network will not be avalable. addidtional for this, if i start yast, there are only 2 moduls shown. (no network, so no posibility to change. -> this will be no problem if i during installation in addidtion say "install mc" then after login yast is ok. (this was my second attemp to go arround this problem) here is what i have done (most translated, partly (sorry for bad english) in german): language german next -> networkinstallation change: reiter umschalten: static adress: 192.168.0.61 subnetmask (as it is) 255.255.255.0 hostname: xxxxxxxx10 konfigurationsname: (as is is) enp1s0 at general as it is "at systemstart" hostname/dns:. hostname xxxxx10 domanname site hostname der loopback adresse zuweisen NEIN hostname over dhcp set: no dns-konfiguration: use standard nameserver1: 192.168.0.99 routing: standart ipv4 gateway 192.168.0.99 not marked forarding next desktop kde plasma next harddrive: experten partitionierer, start with already old stuff sda and sdb delete completely general settings: use: "geraetename" maybe name of the hardware? sda: partitionen: add primare 60 gb. operating system format ext4 fs-tab-optionen: volumen label: system hinzufuegen: primaere 2 gb swap fs-tab optionen: label: swap hinzufuegen: primaere: label home sda2 delete modyfy : sda2 move forward partition add, primaere maximale size swap fstab-optionen name swap sdb format ext4 no mounten max size next zeitzohne europa. rechner uhr auf utc gestellt zeitzohne deutschland andere einstellungen: ntp-server: 192.168.0.99 next name: XXXX XXXXX passwort fuer root: firewall geschlossen ssh micht aktiv ssh port geschlossen newstart logging in: miniprogramm: network "network address will be get" "netwerkaddresse wird bezogen" regards, simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

My reply might not be helpful. But I want to point out that your issue may not be a problem caused by the snapshot as I have re-installed my system with this snapshot two days ago without any problem. I skipped the network setup during installation and I got DHCP available after entering the desktop (KDE Plasma).

Sorry, I do not know what "mc" is.
here is what i have done (most translated, partly (sorry for bad english) in german):

I skimmed this part because I do not recognise most of the words. But I guess the only difference between your installation and mine is that I chose not to setup the network during the installing.

Sorry, I do not know what "mc" is. is "midnight commander"
thats the point, i do not have dhcp inside the network, and if i make a setup with fixed ipv4 addresses, the snapshot will ignore the fixed addresses and will use dhcp. (and this will fail inside my network) this i have reproduced (2 times installed from this snapshoot). the point here is, if i go inside setup into the list for additional software, then installation will show a huge bunch of additional to installed software, and in my case, yast modules are then installed correct. if i do not go into the installation of addidtional software, there where at least some yast moduls not automatically installed (but they should be) (this was the difference between my two installations) .. happy new year !!! simoN -- www.becherer.de/AGB -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

So your problem is the system still "search"es for address when the fixed IPv4 address was set during installation. That's something unknown to me.

This is weird. I thought the modules to be installed is preset in the setup process. Maybe this is a bug but I could not reproduce.
.. happy new year !!!
Happy new year! (And maybe this is the reason that not many replies to your post :)) Good luck!

Maybe some mc dependency is needed by yast and isn't installed for some reason? ncurses, libgmodule-2_0-0, libslang2, etc?

sorry, i did not have seen there is a choice for the installer. (if there is, i have not touched it) after the second install where all yast moduls where there, i have seen that wicked was installed by the installer. and i have then set the fixed ip address as i need. after this everithing worked fine. -> so the problem is that the installer did not work correct. setting it by hand after system starts is not the problem (when yast-network was installed (in my second attemp)).

i do not know. in my opinion, the problem is not what was installed ("mc") additionally, but the fact that if nothing will be additionally "manual" installed there is a problem (maybe not installed "suggested" packets??) . (yast-network and most other yast moduls where not installed) simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
