[opensuse-factory] Kernel 4.13.1 breaks Intel mobile Graphics
Did an update on an old ASUS eeePC to the above TW. With Kernel 4.13.1, 2/3 of the screen is black. Switching back to Kernel 4.12.11 fixes the problem. Graphics chip is a Intel mobile GM945 GM https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1058870 Anyone else sees this problem? Haven’t used my eeePC in a very long time and updating it would take all day with its glacially slow storage… Is xf86-video-intel installed? If so, uninstall that (so it uses the far less buggy modesetting DDX instead).

Once started, it runs on its own...but it takes time, indeed

So I guess it needs an additional boot parameter then? Nomodeset? Cheers Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

No. Nomodeset is a troubleshooting parameter that prevents all drivers for non-ancient gfxchips from being used, slowing Xorg to a crawl, if it starts at all. What Martin write means you should allow Xorg use the integrated modeset driver by not having xf86-video-intel installed. It's easier and simpler than configuring manually via /etc/X11/xorg.conf* to not use an installed xf86-video-intel driver. If it doesn't help, reinstall it. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive." Proverbs 16:21 (New Living Translation) Team OS/2 ** Reg. The switch to the integrated modest driver does not work. It still asks for xf86-video-intel. Interesting in this context: same issue as described in the bug is visible in runlevel 3 as well. So you can't even use the command prompt with kernel 4.13.1 Best, Axel -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Do you have an xorg.conf that refers to the intel driver?

You probably need to check and redo the initrd after removing the modules? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

No, there is no xorg.conf

Did you try purging Plymouth, and removing quiet and splash from cmdline?
