[opensuse-factory] New package: cups-airprint
Hi, AirPrint is an Apple technology that allows iOS and OS X devices to print wirelessly, and without setting up printer drivers. It is based on a combination of the mDNS and IPP protocols, for printer discovery and for submitting print jobs over a network, respectively. On openSUSE, implementations of those protocols are provided by Avahi and CUPS, respectively. Turning an openSUSE system into an AirPrint server can be achieved by configuring the Avahi and CUPS services appropriately. The cups -airprint package is a collection of tools, configuration files, and instructions aiming to make the setup process as easy as possible. The result will most likely not be a perfect AirPrint implementation. There are caveats, and the exact functionality supported depends on the printer driver. Nevertheless, it will probably be more than adequate for the everyday printing needs of geekos with iPhones.
