[opensuse-factory] openSUSE 11.3 Support for Intel Core i3 / i7

Hi Listmates, I tried installing openSUSE (oS) 11.2 and 11.3 M3 on Dell Inspiron 1440 and Acer Aspire 4740, and the results seem similar: 1. oS 11.2: Live KDE: It failed to boot. Installation: Succeeded to run YaST-Installer, but after reboot it failed to finish the installation processes. 2. 11.3 M3: Live CD KDE4: It booted well. but hang when it was in progress on YaST Installer (when formatting new partitions) Installation: I can see it booted well but no GUI ran, only blank screen, I could not reach 'Ctrl+Alt+Fn). Will Intel i3 / i7 processors be supported by oS 11.3 in time the 11.3 reach the final release? Thanks in advance. I don't think your issue has anything to do with the CPU. The kernel already supports Core i7, and i3 AFAIK.
1. oS 11.2:
Live KDE: It failed to boot.
Installation: Succeeded to run YaST-Installer, but after reboot it failed to finish the installation processes.
We'll definitely need more details for this.
2. 11.3 M3:
Live CD KDE4: It booted well. but hang when it was in progress on YaST Installer (when formatting new partitions)
Installation: I can see it booted well but no GUI ran, only blank screen, I could not reach 'Ctrl+Alt+Fn).
This sounds like a problem between Xorg and the kernel. Do you have another system you can login with remotely to capture the logs? - -Jeff - -- Jeff Mahoney SUSE Labs -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.14 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with SUSE - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iEYEARECAAYFAkuYLR8ACgkQLPWxlyuTD7J8mgCgmq4jeCPV443s7cjkkK5WYKe6 d5YAn3doandZXes3mvoGbhVT2G8SH2DB =hsKO -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I'm really sorry about the long reply as those laptops now are not in my place anymore, there are not mine anyway. But I will give any further update related this thread as soon as those machines (or any other identical laptops) arrived to my place again.

Btw, how to do that as the laptop has no sshd running? Thanks in advance. Type "3" at the initial boot (grub) prompt. You have about 8 seconds to do so. Next time, of course, I know you no longer have that laptop at hand. - -- Cheers, Carlos E.
