Also, hope this isn't bad form but I posted this topic in the Alpha/Beta forum before deciding to post to this list. Please let me know if any other info/test are needed to resolve this.

Installed 11.1 alpha 2 x86_64. It comes with 3 repositories enabled by default. Oss, Non-Oss, and updates. Updates appears to be broken or perhaps not in use yet?

Yes, there is no 11.1 update repo at this point. So this is to be expected.
