[opensuse-factory] dhclient works but not yast
I can get a DHCP address by launching by hand dhclient but if I use yast and set the interface to dhcp, the interface never gets an ip address. This was working on early betas but broke some time ago... There is definitely something broken with the DHCP... After looking in the scripts, actually it dhcpcd that doesn't work anymore... However one strange thing, is that dhclient does fall back on socket (not sure what that means). Erik.

Please check if dhcpcd is running (ps aux |grep dhcpcd). Seems you misunderstood my question... Of course it's running when calling it with such simple parameters - that's what also confused me when debugging the issue. (See https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=389759 for details) Please: - reboot (to have a clean start) - run ps aux | grep dhcpcd - post the output of the above command Regards, Christian Boltz -- BUGS My programs never have bugs. Hi
Of course it's running when calling it with such simple parameters
I ran it in command line to have additional debugging information.
Please: - reboot (to have a clean start) - run ps aux | grep dhcpcd - post the output of the above command
I ran all of this. And after a clean reboot, dhcpcd *is* running, it is even logging in /var/log/messages and sending packets but *not* getting an address where dhclient is. Anyway, dhclient is supported in the scripts so I can survive with it. Is there any advantage to dhcpcd? I personally suspect a problem with the ethernet driver since the dhclient does somekind of fallback to Socket instead of directly addressing eth0. Also I'm wondering if this is related to the fact that our dhcp server has reserved addresses for all clients. Don't worry, I made the same "mistake". (But when an unsupported parameter is the problem, simply calling the debugging mode without all the parameters usually used is pointless ;-)
Please: - reboot (to have a clean start) - run ps aux | grep dhcpcd - post the output of the above command

Then you must have hit a different bug. Please search bugzilla if it is a known bug, and open a bugreport if you don't find a report about it.
Anyway, dhclient is supported in the scripts so I can survive with it.
That's only a workaround ;-)
Is there any advantage to dhcpcd?
Sorry, I don't know. (Can someone answer this?)
