[opensuse-factory] RPM Group Tags
Right, over the last couple of minutes I have looked into the changes of Group: tags in spec files which I know have been removed at the other major RPM distros. By looking at the MAJOR discussion on the opensuse-factory mailing list about it in Oct 2019. There is a clear division between SUSE and openSUSE. And I get removal of stupid spec file constructs should happen but there needs to be agreement from both sides. (https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2019-10/msg00114.html): The bottom paragraph of this is appalling I must say, we should be a community by which everyone has equal view not by enforcement, and this was repeated to r/openSUSE on Reddit. (https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2019-10/msg00188.html) (https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2019-10/msg00147.html) Still the current position and I bet any attempt to do otherwise will resume that war. I myself will sit on the fence because we need openSUSE + SUSE = great :) otherwise especially now (CTLG) both sides will ground to a halt. Last decision was to respect what the maintainer decides, that's why I asked you to not re-add the Group tag, that the maintainer removed. ismail -- "Nothing is true, everything is permitted." - Hasan-i Sabbāh "If there is no God, then everything is permitted." - Dmitri Karamazov SUSE Software Solutions Germany GmbH, Maxfeldstrasse 5, 90409 Nuernberg, Germany GF: Felix Imendörffer (HRB 36809, AG Nürnberg)

No idea why you think it's SUSE vs. openSUSE. I assume you mean the technical requirement of having a RPM Group Tag for existing SUSE products. This exists and cannot be removed, only for new SUSE products. Thorsten

Yes, typically new packages from SUSE employees are more likely to not have a Group Tag but some are getting added to Factory with them after Oct 2019. And, because of https://en.opensuse.org/openSUSE:Package_group_guidelines and copying from other spec files, typically packages from openSUSE contributors have Group tags. Because of the current policy of whatever the maintainer says we end up with a mish mash (no uniformity). Callum
