[opensuse-factory] Tumbleweed - Review of the Week 2015/41
Dear Tumbleweed users and hackers, As promised last week, you received a snapshot that contained: * systemd 224 * Linux Kernel 4.2 * Mozilla Firefox 41.0 * libQt 5.5.0 Users of Virtualbox were a bit bitten by this update, as virtualbox did not successfully build with kernel 4.2 (not due to a vbox issue, but due to dependency issues with the systemd update, which manifested in virtualbox). Of course, virtualbox has since been fixed and you can expect this problem solved in the next snapshot. The next snapshot will have some larger updates again, which is why it takes a bit longer to get this out to you guys, in fully working state. The updates that will guaranteed be in are: * GNOME 3.18.0 * KDE Applications 15.08.1 As you’d expect, we’re working hard to get these updates out to you as quickly as possible. What is currently being prepared in stagings: *Python 3.5 update: this will need some work, as there are multiple packages failing to build (e.g. pythonn3-setuptools, which is quite basic requriement). * Plasma 5.4.2 Have a great weekend a lot of fun. A lot of sincere compliments to the members of Tumbleweed development team which are doing a so good job. Have not had Tumbleweed experience in the past and after I migrated to it recently, I'm very pleased and satisfied! Great job! Can't even imagine how y'all are making Tumbleweed happen. I have the great good fortune of working on Windows machines. The comparison with openSUSE/Tumbleweed is night&day. Agreed. And to Dominique for writing the ‘Tumbleweed Review of the Week’, which is great! I always enjoy reading it. -- Karl Ove Hufthammer -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Dominique, When can we expect an update of the snapshot repo for openSUSE:Factory ? At this moment the snapshot still holds libQt 5.4.2 and is now causing issues as that users with TW have upgraded to LibQt 5.5 while packages are still build for the older release. It would be great if there would be an automatic mechnanism in place that the snapshot repo is automatically updated whenever a new TW snapshot is being published. We'll need to let the building settle in openSUSE:Factory and the major devel repos.. so basically: whenever OBS is 'idle' this is being updated.. let's see if manage to get this done over the weekend

Yes. this would be perfect if they were linked somehow... sadly, they are not. I was told the setup does not really allow for this. Dominique -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Hi Dominique, Will keep my fingers crossed :)

Yeah. Definitely a shame as that we now have the situation that if we build against Factory standard, we are building against newer versions than in TW, but building against Factory snapshot could cause the above issue where we are building against lower versions than in TW. Thanks for your support. Regards Raymond -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Does it mean if one wants to build some package for him/herself while running TW, it's not safe to use openSUSE_Factory as the target? That depends on your definition of "not safe" - it will work in 98% of all cases. The problem is that we publish openSUSE:Factory:ToTest and there is no repository, only products tested. What we require to make this work is a way in OBS to clone repositories through the API - but the only supported way atm is through some cron job on the backend ;( https://features.opensuse.org/318339 is 9 months old - so in case someone is good in perl hacking and requires this feature badly: fork https://github.com/openSUSE/open-build-service Greetings, Stephan -- Ma muaß weiterkämpfen, kämpfen bis zum Umfalln, a wenn die ganze Welt an Arsch offen hat, oder grad deswegn. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
