[opensuse-factory] Leap 42.2 incorrect checksum?
I realize I should just re-download bu I though I'd check here how frequently is a checksum mismatch experienced, and also if I am not doing something right (as the mismatch surprised me, never happened to me in the past) The steps I did (all downloads from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/): - Downloaded openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64.iso.torrent - aria2c openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD.iso.torrent - this downloaded the file below - *openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64.iso* 4.3 Gb - Downloaded openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64.iso.sha256 (this saved as *openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64.iso.bin* - *why?*) - *sha256sum openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64.iso # ran this command* - result is a single line with *5f0a87601467e9f69ce7358373f425c37e7fccb8a120881d938298f59f1637f6 openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64.iso* - Clicked on "details" beside openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64.iso link on http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/ - This says: *ba5af6b0ac4d42d801de642304eb88ca9fd65a61b6c3ff25724182494f288f00* which is *DIFFERENT from the sha256sum result* Should I ignore everything and just re-download the ISO? The steps I did (all downloads from http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/):
- Downloaded openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD-x86_64.iso.torrent - aria2c openSUSE-Leap-42.2-DVD.iso.torrent - this downloaded the file below
No, you should use aria2c with the meta link, not the torrent one. Repeat, and it should check and correct your previous download, if bad. See man page. There was another thread about a checksum problem, have a look at it to see if it applies to your case. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
Thanks Carlos. I re-downloaded the ISO directly and the checksum
agrees; I have originally downloaded from
http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/ which does
not have the metalink (only the torrent; not sure why). And thanks
also for the pointer that rerunning ariaa2c with the metalink would
have corrected the ISO.

its not the directory that has a metalink it is the actual objects in there, you need to use those "Details" links that the mirorbrain http server creates and maintains for all those stored objects. e.g. add .mirrorlist as a suffix to those objects presented there e.g. http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/openSUSE-Leap-42.2-D... and there you find in the header and meta information that you could also add a .meta4 suffix to the presented objects giving you the aria2c capable link for multisegment and neat download ways e.g. http://download.opensuse.org/distribution/leap/42.2/iso/openSUSE-Leap-42.2-D... mirrorbrain documentation et al -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Gosh. Just go to the opensuse page, https://www.opensuse.org/. Click on "install leap". It takes you to the main download page: https://software.opensuse.org/422/en. You see a box: 4.7GB DVD (also suitable for USB stick) Contains a large collection of software for desktop or server use. Suitable for installation or upgrade. Download Method (?) SHA256 checksum Direct Link | BitTorrent | Metalink | Pick Mirror ------------------------------------------********** Don't you see the blue Metalink word in there? Why don't you simply click there? -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 13.1 x86_64 "Bottle" at Telcontar)
