Hi, I've an old laptop with PIII and an i810 chipset. Staring with kernel 2.6.33, loading the i915.ko will blank the screen. This is on all 11.3 milestones and ubuntu lucid All screens are blank, console and X11, but remote access is fine. I see several options here. * blacklist this module * Open a bugreport in *Ubuntu's* bugtracking system ;-) * Use an ancient OS on ancient hardware * Replace ancient hardware with current hardware SCNR, Stefan Public Key available ------------------------------------------------------ Stefan Dirsch (Res. & Dev.) Forget about win7, there probably won't be ancient videodrivers, and it needs an oughfull lot of ram to run acceptable.... (on modern hardware, win7 is pretty modern for a windows version, not overdone this time, and an outstanding autoproblemsolver..(as far as it don't causes the problems it solves itself?)
* Replace ancient hardware with current hardware

My guess. X autodetection would fall back to vesa or such. Prolly Windows 7 will use an limited standard driver too. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

Hi, I fixed the problem by: blacklist i915 create an xorg.conf.d/12.hw.conf, selecting frambuffer driver Am 15.04.10 10:07, schrieb Stefan Dirsch:
