[opensuse-factory] Epson CX5300 Scanner Work Around
![](https://seccdn.libravatar.org/avatar/9708f98f84ba515289ea485046421547.jpg?s=120&d=mm&r=g)
Hi,
My scanner now works correctly in openSUSE 10.2 after applying the correct USB
Vendor and Product ID (0x04b8 0x808) to the 'usb' line in
as described by Jon Nelson in his comment # 4
Bugzilla # 229250.
It seems to me that there may be more than one problem here given the Sane Bug
Tracker # 304271 reports in part:-
"seems libsane 1.0.17 is working for these scanners, 1.0.18 not"
and the Epson site http://www.avasys.jp/english/linux_e/dl_spc.html contains
what appears to be a simple typo error in the configuration file

Ironically now that my scanner is working again, it hasn't worked since SuSE10.0, the print heads have totally blocked up and I'm up for a new MFP! I've now seen three (3) CX5300's fail because of ink blockages so my new one will not be from that stable :-(
EPSON (I have Epson 925) It is recommended and I concur, that you turn off the printer except when in continuous or nearly continuous usage. I had to clean the ink heads at almost every use (I am an infrequent printer) until I began turning off the printer about three months ago. Have not cleaned the print heads since and see no skipping or blank areas.
