openSUSE Release Engineering meeting 28.08.2024
How to join the meeting? https://calendar.opensuse.org/teams/release/events/opensuse-release-engineer... All meeting minutes can be found here: https://etherpad.opensuse.org/p/ReleaseEngineering-meeting ## Attendees: ana, lkocman, DimStar, Sarah, max, GuillaumeG, DocB,adamm, ddemaio, mmeissner NOTICE! the meeting url is https://meet.opensuse.org/meeting ## Leap Leap 15.6 WIP Release notes entry Thanks to Antonio for heads up https://github.com/openSUSE/release-notes-openSUSE/pull/153 This reminded me about a need to have new RN publishing infra for 16.0. 15.6 is all manual after migration of community-o-o to community2. * Inputs from Sarah on downgraded packages see ML links in s390x section. Leap 16 We're finally testing Leap 16.0 from the right project, Leap is using agama-installer-Leap to not conflict with other openQA setups (for agama:devel and TW) https://openqa.opensuse.org/group_overview/129 many thanks to Fabian for getting the sync working. * The Next step is to put agama.installer_url to use WIP PR is here https://github.com/os-autoinst/os-autoinst-distri-opensuse/pull/20064 Leap 16 initial "abstract" wallpaper set (3pcs) confirmed, a few additional ones one the go. WIP SR is in place. * rework https://github.com/openSUSE/branding/tree/leap-16.0 so the input is a single svg per aspect ratio, and then resize them to particular resolutions we've picked up. The current plan is that this repo would hold contain all of these wallpapers. * dark/light config for GNOME * I did speak to Fabian and Antonio about KDE availability prior to public annoucement of 16.0 Alpha, and they're on it. * The dark/light themes will be non-trivial for KDE. Antonio will have a loot at it. ^ Line 20+ applies for Tumbleweed as well * Need to finalize cleanup of agama-product icons https://github.com/openSUSE/agama/pull/1550 Should probably start working on Leap Micro 6.1 - SLEM 6.1 is already has public Beta out https://www.suse.com/c/suse-linux-enterprise-micro-6-1-public-beta-is-now-av... The hottest feature seems to be soft-reboot on. Would be nice to do some more Leap Micro demos touching this on youtube. ## openSUSE Tumbleweed (ana) openSUSE:Factory build fail stats: 15 failed 9 unresolvable (last week 19 failed, 2 unresolvable) https://tinyurl.com/ysy4nnnz (in reality more when some builds with gcc14 are triggered) 594 requests accepted in the last week Most relevant changes: Switch to GCC14 as default compiler in 20240827. There are still lots of packages outside ring0 and ring1 failing to build, please see https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/M... or directly https://tinyurl.com/ysy4nnnz dbus-broker as default dbus session manager 🎉,🎉,🎉,; at least wicked has been identified to start before dbus-broker, resulting in 'non-functional network' - https://bugzilla.opensuse.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1229745 Other updates: KDE Release gear 24.08.0 bluez 5.77 gstreamer 1.24.7 libassuan 3.0.1 LibreOffice 24.8.0 Mozilla Firefox 129.0.1 NetworkManager 1.48.10 Chromium 128.0.6613.84 Cinnamon Desktop 6.2.9 Blocked: python312 3.12.5 (blocked by python-hypothesmith:test FTBFS - a test times out) perl-Bootloader to be renamed to update-bootloader, openQA tests needs updating https://progress.opensuse.org/issues/165686 ### longer-lasting topics Switch default LSM from AppArmor to SELinux, see https://lists.opensuse.org/archives/list/factory@lists.opensuse.org/thread/Y... ## Richard (Aeon+botmaster) Not available ## Max Leap 16.0 * cleanup SLFO overlapping package in Leap 16.0 project * it's now be able to freeze 16.0 staging via staging freeze cmd * ftp-tree builds in staging, but it's too large even now we don't have KDE package yet * in order to get a smaller packageset to build ftp-tree in staging, I did set up Rings project for Leap 16.0 * make 0 package build fail on x86_64 in 16.0 lkocman: Dimstar mentioned that perhaps we want to make a storage HW request for 16.0, as we'll build more trees and images than in 15.3+ (where we started to use adi stagings only). Adrian: the entire model of stagings might change, there is multiple possibilities. It's also the data transfer aside from pure storage. Max: Same situation with staging will happen soon on Tumbleweed. ## Guillaume - Arm Tumbleweed: * Rolling but affected by a dbus-broker bug https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1229745 Leap 15.5: * RPi3 boot problem related to a kernel update https://bugzilla.suse.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1225352 Leap 15.6: * No blocker ## Sarah - s390x * Tumbleweed rolling * s390-tools are updated Topic openSUSE on Hercules * hercules package not compatible with openSUSE Tumbleweed (x86) any more -> new project on Github https://github.com/SDL-Hercules-390/hyperion (updating in OBS) Hints about special instructions in Hercules: https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-390@vm.marist.edu/msg74185.html Kernel problem with Leap/Tumbleweed on new Hercules emulator (zram kernel trace): https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-390@vm.marist.edu/msg74187.html -> Ihno tries to reproduce and analyze Question: How to handle such kernel bugs? IBM does not like Hercules... User feedback about reasons for switching from Leap to Tumbleweed (because of Upgrade problems): https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-390@vm.marist.edu/msg74188.html Leap 16.0 will very likely have similar maintenance workflow as Leap Micro 6.1, which does not utilize :Update project. Perhaps some of these issues would simply go away by design. ## Doug * openSUSE.Asia Summit * Talks have been approved * Waiting on people to confirm talks * TSP * 25 people applied * A cap was made for flights and lodging * Akademy begins next weekend * No call for booth yet for FOSDEM * Article on race condition for TW networking stack published * Monthly TW review ready. Waiting to publish, Ideally to provide info on users rolling forward * GSoC * Finals for 10 or 11 are this week August 26 - Sept. 2 (For most) * 5 of 10 are complete * 1 is extended with a final on Sept. 30 ## Dirk away ## Wolfgang (Package Hub), Scott Bahling, Nathan Cutler not available ## Maintenance team (Marcus, Robert) * Sarah mentioned 20 downgrades of packages during distribution upgrade. Details in https://www.mail-archive.com/linux-390@vm.marist.edu/msg74188.html lkocman: will open a bug report and will get list of packages from the ML above. Adrian: there is a bug in the scheduler, maybe caused by patchinfo GA this seems to be the main blocker for maintenance. (Adrian please correct me). lkocman: I need to make sure that Micro 6.0 / 6.1 will contain product-composer fixes. ## Adrian - OBS See section above ^ Heads up: planning regarding offline installer for Agama. ## Bernhard - Slowroll Not available ## Bernhard - reproducible builds Not available ## Adam - Git Workflow `gitea-events-rabbitmq-publisher` - live systemwide. "rabbit.opensuse.org" now has all webhook events there organized with topic `opensuse.gitea.<org>.<webhook type>.<action>` {wip} migrating project workflow to RabbitMQ + polling (in case events lost) TODO: migrate NodeJS devel project after above is done scm-staging bot is stuck -- waiting for Dirk to unstuck it fixes and modification are also waiting for deployment here ## Open Floor

Are you sure? The release notes are serverd by pinot.i.o.o [1], and AFAIK get automatically updated. You "just" need to add 16.0 to the config in the doc-o-o repo. Have a look at our salt repo for details (salt/profile/documentation/), and feel free to ask if you still have questions ;-) That said - for the other parts of doc.o.o that now live on community2, some automation would indeed be useful. Regards, Christian Boltz [1] in case you wonder - while doc.o.o lives on community2, haproxy forwards requests to /release-notes to pinot.i.o.o -- Versuch aber nicht mit --nodeps Gewalt anzuwenden, wenn rpm protestiert, sollte man es ernstnehmen (auch Programme haben Gefühle ;-) ) [Manfred Tremmel in suse-linux]
