[opensuse-factory] openSUSE 11.0 Beta 1 release?
I thought to start to help with testing out openSUSE 11.0, but had a broken installation attempt with Alpha 3 this week. I could't wait and installed 10.3 instead. The Roadmap for 11.0 told however http://en.opensuse.org/Roadmap/11.0 Thu, Apr 17 openSUSE 11.0 Beta 1 release Thu, Apr 24 openSUSE 11.0 Beta 1+ release As I can't find that Beta 1 is released yet, I wonder if there has been announced some delays in this release schedule? Well, I've downloaded the openSUSE 11 Beta 1 Gnome Live CD i386. But unhappily, another a broken installation attempt. At the boot: prompt I just entered return The first I noticed was that there was no boot splash screen, just text messages rolling over the display during boot, but at last I was presented the graphical Gnome desktop. Started the Install icon, which after a while broke the installation attempt with the following error messages:

My question is: Is it possible to start the normal yast installation at boot prompt, without booting the Live mode first? If, not other options and commands to install? You can use ftp5.gwdg.de://pub/opensuse/distribution/11.0-Beta1/iso/dvd/ for the DVD images (only this time, because we neither have CDs nor deltas). Viele Grüße Eberhard Mönkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

Thanks for the link; I'm currently downloading the DVD iso. I did first download from http://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/distribution/11.0-Beta1/iso/ which had only the Live CD iso's available, beside Torrent. Yes, ftp.gwdg.de is lacking space, and ftp5.gwdg.de will be the successor. It is already fully functional, but the official name migration still will need some work and time. Viele Grüße Eberhard Mönkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

This is highly welcome from my perspective, as it is for others who are not in a position to use bittorrent. I understand the motivation behind using only bittorrent for alpha and beta releases, so I have not complained about it in the past, but ftp'ing the DVD's will allow me to more thoroughly test 11.0-Beta1 on my machines. Do you intend to mirror a "Frozen factory" corresponding to Beta1 as you have done for past releases? --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I will if I get a signal when factory has beta1 state. Viele Grüße Eberhard Mönkeberg (emoenke@gwdg.de, em@kki.org)

There were no commits after beta1 and as factory synced out tonight, it should be beta1. I think I missed something here..., so there is no way to install using the single CD without starting the live system?
No-one reads my status reports. This will be good to know in negotiations on why I'm not sending them anymore. With 10.3 we concentrated on getting single CD installations in parallel to DVD and this (among other things) caused the live CDs to be late. Now we dropped single CDs in favor of getting the live CD installs right and in time. Beta1 has unfortunately a pretty fresh kernel, which caused some problems. But this will be fixed really soon and I'll push new live cds online as soon as I have them. If you mean another status report, then I couldn't found it. I have no problem to drop the single CDs against the live CDs, but I think it would be better to have the option to start the installation system from the boot menu, without the need to start the live cd system. Right now these single cds are useless because I can't start the live cd system, so I'm unable to install beta 1. I have to download the DVD, and that is what I wanted to avoid.
