No, libreoffice-* for tw is only 5.2.3.3-25. You are trying to run a "factory" package which is not made for tw. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

i assumed, that factory and tumbleweed were brought together some time ago, and are the same these days. if not, for whom is a factory repo then? i assume that this factory repo is also not suitable for a leap 42.2 installation. -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | *DI Rainer Klier* Research & Development, DevOps Namirial GmbH -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

i assumed, that factory and tumbleweed were brought together some time ago, and are the same these days. Factory and Tumbleweed are sometimes different according to the devel-cycle. Package updates are made in devel-projects like the source where you picked LO obviously. When they are fine in the devel project the changes are submitted to factory and after a course of quality assessment they are included into factory. And finally from the factory state snapshots are made and have to pass another quality assessment step prior to its release. Thus, factory and TW are not necessarily on the same state.
In short: TW is for general consumption, factory for development.
if not, for whom is a factory repo then?
i assume that this factory repo is also not suitable for a leap 42.2 installation.

Patrick, please update your knowledge about the interaction of Factory and Tumbleweed.... the two have been a synonym to each other for > 2 years by now. The only distinction we usually make there is: Factory is 'the thing in the build service, before it passed openQA' Tumbleweed is 'the thing published on download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed' and has passed openQA As soon as you add any devel project, you move 'somewhere in between': your base comes from the 'openQA tested Tumbleweed repo'; any additional repo you add and get packages for did get the testing the devs deemed nescessary in there.. this can range from 0 (no testing done, this is a WIP branch) to whatever somebody tested. Cheers Dominique

ok. so what does this now mean for my observation about the scaled/broken icons in libreoffice 5.3 from factory repo? currently i reverted back to libreoffice 5.2.3.3. icons are fine in this version. -- Best Regards | Freundliche Grüße | Cordialement | Cordiali Saluti | *DI Rainer Klier* Research & Development, DevOps Namirial GmbH -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

currently i reverted back to libreoffice 5.2.3.3. icons are fine in this version.
By testing LO from the LO/Factory repo you went ahead and tested what will be submitted (or actually, IS submitted) to Tumbleweed - such tests are very valuable. Even though we test the distro using openQA, there is only a limited set of tests possible. It's mainly virtualized, there is no HiDPI display connected (which could be for example a reason for your icon blurriness?) and so on. At the moment I'm waiting for Staging:F to build - then LO 5.3 will be submitted to openQA as well... there is no guarantee that we will see the issues there, due to the points listed above. If you can give some more info about the environment you run (KDE/GNOME/XFCE/LXDE), the hardware used, eventual visual config changes (used icon theme for example comes to mind; check the possible icon themes inside LO as well) others might try to compare as well. And as far as I know there is also a bug filed for something alike this already (likely by you!?) Cheers, Dominique

ok, then i did nothing wrong, but the opposite. ;-)

yes, i have a HiDPI environment, i think. this week, after also updating firefox to 51.0.1, i also ran into the issue about new GTK3 based firefox does not work correctly on iDPI environments. i had to workaround this as felix miata answered in thread "Re: [opensuse-factory][UI regression] switch Firefox to Gtk3 for Tumbleweed (was: New Tumbleweed snaps...)" the workaround was to create a .Xdefaults/.Xresources file in my home dir, which contains a line like this: Xft.dpi: 130 i found the used DPI from my /var/log/Xorg.0.log now the firefox problem is solved.

Patrick, please update your knowledge about the interaction of Factory and Tumbleweed.... the two have been a synonym to each other for > 2 years by now.
The only distinction we usually make there is:
Factory is 'the thing in the build service, before it passed openQA' Tumbleweed is 'the thing published on download.opensuse.org/tumbleweed' and has passed openQA
As soon as you add any devel project, you move 'somewhere in between': your base comes from the 'openQA tested Tumbleweed repo'; any additional repo you add and get packages for did get the testing the devs deemed nescessary in there.. this can range from 0 (no testing done, this is a WIP branch) to whatever somebody tested.
I do *understand*, but they are *really* different re "openQA tested", plus the plethora of similar "Tumbleweed" and "Factory" repos which contain different versions of the same packages. "Factory" for testing and "Tumbleweed" more general usage. A "Factory" user confronted with the problem noted would/should resort to bug reporting knowing the particular package had not yet passed openQA. To my "understanding" this change from Factory to Tumbleweed occurred as Greg KH's involvement decreased and the "rolling" release became more widely accepted/used. ps: my main desktop is a direct decendent of Greg KH's original rolling release. ps2: many thanks for your work. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 Registered Linux User #207535 Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
