Not sure what you mean by thank you. If you're being sarcastic, let me assure you that you're helping noone, yourself included. You're running Tumbleweed, you should be able to stomach NVidia not working on a Kernel upgrade. What's more, there's extensive documentation at https://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers and an email report that NVidia blobs are broken on the new snapshot. https://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2016-08/msg00068.html There are ways of running the NVidia driver on Kernel 4.7 - you just need to use them :-) . Cheers, Robert

Check the logs before you update! If there is a new major kernel version introduced (4.7 here), you can predict Nvidia driver will fail to compile aginst it. Btw. its Nvidias fault to use internal interfaces which change from release to release! Unfortunately, this is just one half of the truth and I can't leave this uncommented - Nouveau is currently crap, too. There are several open issues a #fdo concerning serious errors, mainly hangups after a while, on different hardware (included my one, HP ZBook 15). Some of them are stuck months or even years. I don't care so much about OpenGL 4 or similar features. If nouveau will be at least as stable as the proprietary nvidia driver I'll be glad to get rid of nvidia again. No developer does even comment the issues, whether it is worth to retry in the new kernel or whether there is a workaround. I rechecked nouveau in each new major kernel version without success, it works a few minutes but the system just hangs up after a while. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

I would like to use Nvidia Quadro NVS 440 (quad output), but with that plasmashell keeps abending. Instead I use an Nvidia FX1700 (dual output), has been working very well. -- Posted with knode 4.14 from openSUSE Leap42.1 office34: Cyrix 486DX2/66MHz, 4096Mb RAM, #9 GXE -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Correct. Personally, I could discuss in detail and send links to issues, but this is far beyond this issue. If someone is interested I can send it personally. I reported my issues at the proper place with all logs (#fdo). All I needed to say is nouveau should get rock-solid and stable in the first place instead of just receiving features or restructuring the code (which is valid for each driver from my point of view). This means also not to break code for existing devices in favour of upcoming ones. Then we would be back in a state that just gamers would need proprietary graphics drivers, which is my desire. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
