[opensuse-factory] Restoring support for KDE3 in LibreOffice
Some time ago the support for KDE3 was disabled in our LibreOffice allegedly to "reduce dep graph". But a lot of openSUSE users still use KDE3. The LibreOffice package provides well the KDE3 support feature and openSUSE has all necessary packages needed to build it. Yet my submit-request to re-enable KDE3 support has been rejected. Why people just cannot let us use the desktop we like to? This feature is provided by upstream and openSUSE is one of the remaining distributions that provides KDE3. Why do not we enable the feature? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Well, maybe it will be nice to point also to submit request so we can make picture. I search it on build service and it is this one: https://build.opensuse.org/request/show/295195 For me argument with braking kde4 sounds quite strong. Regarding cycles, well maybe some numbers showing usage of KDE3 will be good to see if it deserve that build cycles? I have no idea how many users still use and prefer KDE3. But even if it is small number of users you have option how to do it. You can add to kde3 project link to libreoffice with modified spec file to build your kde3-extension and offer it to users. If users have priority on KDE repo, then it gets it automatic. This argument is invalid: I put the KDE3 support files into a separate libreoffice-kde3 package. They do not intervene with KDE4 at all (well, unless somebody decided to install it). -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Building libreoffice separately will take even more cycles than adding KDE3 support to common libreoffice. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

You put the package into separate sub that is right, but as you removed the hack that merged kde and kde4 you actually have to fix the split in the upstream, because without it kde4 integration depends on kde3. And I kinda think more users would be pissed about suddenly pulling kde3 rather than lacking native kde3 interface. Also what's so bad with the plain gtk frontend on kde3 it was always the supported one on those anyway, because the kde3 had quite few rendering bugs... Tom

This is not the case. How kde4 integration can depend on kde3, if kde3 integration was disabled? Look, I enable kde3 integration and it builds some more files. I put those files into a new package. How this can affect kde4 integration? If there were any compliants prevuously, please point me to them or to a bug report. If there any files needed for both kde3 and kde4, they can be put in a common package anyway (there is no such files actually).

Is openSUSE a quality operating system or just a junk? How enabling component integration provided by upstrean can harm anybody? -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Because it is broken upstream. And as we disabled the kde3 integration there was no need to bother with it further. If you want it really enabled, then you have to fix it upstream and we could use it. There were no complaints because simply it got broken and kde3 was disabled so nobody gave a bit we have the hack in. If you disable the hack you have to deal with the consequences, here being fixing the lists and splitting the libs properly. It might've been fixed in meantime but when i checked git log there was no change on the distro-install-file-lists so I expect it to still be broken. But back to my question. Are there really some people using it whom would benefit from prolonging the build of Factory for ~1 hour on each run? As libreoffice is tail package for the whole release... Apart from your desire of course to have every possible kde3 thing still on...

Are you really shure what are you talking about? If it is the case, can you provide more info? Particularly, I can restore the hack you mentioned (putting all files in one package) and put all files (kde3 and kde4) into one package, libreoffice-kde. Will that work? If the problem is with the file lists alone, it can be easily fixed. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org

Sorry was away from mail today. It is bit of time I did this so to think about it: 1) there was conflict with files where some kde4 ones got put into kde3 2) one of the .so files was generated with both at once, so pulling both DE's when building like this - upstream didn't bother with this as they build one or the other, and we didn't need to fix it as kde3 was disabled. So for your kde3 to work, fix the point 1 and verify/fix the point 2 is not happening anymore. Then I guess your submission would be acceptable. Tom

What do you mean by "conflict"? Simply a kde4 file in kde3 package?
2) one of the .so files was generated with both at once, so pulling both DE's when building like this
Do you mean the file was put in the both packages or that it got dependencies on the both DEs or what?
- upstream didn't bother with this as they build one or the other, and we didn't need to fix it as kde3 was disabled.

There is definitely no file conflict now but it seems you could mean something different... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-factory+owner@opensuse.org
