[opensuse-factory] 11.1 Beta2 zupper dup?
Hello. Im planning to install beta2 today. Is it safe to 'zypper dup' after install or should i wait for beta3 release? Thanks. What is your experience with Linux? openSUSE? If you have good experience with Linux, and you are ready for beta distributions, I would go ahead and say wait for Beta 3 (saves yourself hours of downloading). If you are not experienced with Linux / openSUSE I would have to say don't do the move, as it could potentially give you a bad experience. Yes, zypper dup would be fine, you may have to run it several times. Be sure to remove all except the factory repository. Ok, i just wanted to make sure that there arent any huge issues with current factory packages. Appologize for top post, sent from blackberry. The only major issues I've seen is with how neteorkmanager and netconfig work together, and bug was opened. On 10/19/08, Jan-Olof Eriksson <jan-olof.eriksson@opensuse.fi> wrote:

Okay, i tryed 'zypper dup' with beta2. When about 50% packages was installed, screen went blank and it didnt recover. I waited minutes. Rebooted and X wasnt starting. Tryed 'sax2 -r', that crashed also. Tryed 'zypper dup' again, that created some weird error and it wanted install some packages all over again. System was unusable. Tryed also system repair with DVD, didnt help. So, DONT DO ZYPPER DUP BEFORE BETA3!! :D Now i'm back with beta2. Btw, i did zypper dup in KDE session, is that okay? -- Jan-Olof 'Owdy' Eriksson http://fi.opensuse.org http://opensuse.fi -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-factory+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-factory+help@opensuse.org

I do it from inside an xterm under the previous stable version. Ie, while running 11.0, I open an xterm, mount the partition that has factory, and do: #!/bin/bash mount /otros/test_d/ mount /otros/test_d/boot/ mount --bind /proc /otros/test_d/proc mount --bind /sys /otros/test_d/sys mount --bind /dev /otros/test_d/dev cp -f /etc/resolv.conf /otros/test_d/etc/resolv.conf echo echo " Copy paste the next line to activate prompt change:" echo "export PS1=$'\\[\E[1m\E[31m\\]NOT_\\h:\\w # \\[\E(B\E[m\\]'" echo chroot /otros/test_d/ /bin/bash --login And then, I run zypper dup without danger of crashing. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Okay, now it doesnt work. Using beta2, when doing 'zypper dup' i get this: "osku@kotipurkki:~> sudo zypper dup Loading repository data... Reading installed packages... Computing distribution upgrade... The following product is going to be downgraded: openSUSE The following product is going to change architecture: openSUSE The following product is going to change vendor: openSUSE No additional space will be used or freed after the operation. Continue? [YES/no]: yes " It does that all over again.
