[opensuse-factory] Lenovo T410s (11.2 black screen in runlevel 3, 5)
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello there, I hope I'm in the right place. I am interested in running the 11.3 Mileston 6 release later in the week, when it becomes available. I have a Lenovo T410s. I have the output of 'hwinfo', which I will happily share. I'm not sending it here, since somebody may want it in a particular place or may not want it at all. I tried installing 11.2, which installs beautifully, but fails on boot, whether I boot to runlevel 3 or 5. The 11.3 Milestone 5 installation failed utterly. I'm looking for advice: - I'm prepared to wait until later in the week, banking on Milestone 6. - Would the 'hwinfo' output be of use to anybody in particular? - Is this a well known issue? - -Martin - -- Martin A. Please explain the details of the failure.
- Would the 'hwinfo' output be of use to anybody in particular?
Not for me, at the moment. If it were, use pastebin or equivalent.
- Is this a well known issue?
Which issue? Efficient crystal balls are very expensive to procure, and you haven't explained the issue, so we can't guess... - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. The bootfailure on 11.2 might be due to outdated drivers, the platform is quite new even if 11.2 isn't that old, 11.3 should behave better over all places though. After M6 release the best would be doing bugreports in case something doesn't work right, if your machine doesn't boot it's even a major problem. But yes, wait for M6 as it is close =) And in case you think the bug might be related to your system hwinfo, lspci, lsusb output might make sense, in case something is missing it will be asked for in the bugreport. It would be interesting, which kind of graphics card this machine has (just "lspci -n|grep 0300; lspci|grep VGA", not the full hwinfo/whatever). -- Stefan Seyfried "Any ideas, John?" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I tried this ISO: openSUSE-NET-x86_64-Build0577-Media.iso I'm not sure exactly where the installation failed, but the installer dropped to the curses based interface at some point and declared that the installation had failed. I will install again (as I can snatch time today) and try to produce a better report. What might be useful information? : > I have a Lenovo T410s. Any news on this topic? Perhaps some bugzilla reports to look at? I am planning to buy a T410s, too, and thus, I am somewhat concerned that I would not be able to use it. Maybe you could add your experience in installing openSUSE on a T410s to some wikis? Since I have the same problem running 11.2 on a T410s, I tried the 11.3 M7 KDE Live CD 64 bit. While it seems to work fine, the X server crashes after enabling compositing and then simply opening a new window. Should I open a bug report? And if so, which log files should I attach?
